Have I broke my camera?

Hi guys, just wondered what you thought of this, up until a few weeks back my Nexus 4 camera was good (or as good as it should be). I take a lot of pictures of product labels at work and never had a problem previously, photos were always readable now I get results like this

It happens on all camera apps too, I've tried four different ones and I've also made sure the externals of the camera are clean!

When I take a picture outside, not a close up, it's not too bad really?

For full disclosure I dropped my phone a few weeks back. Would it be likely I've damaged the lens in some way? Is so I have to swallow it (although I'm not sure how I go about sorting it out) but if it's software related or something really silly that I'm missing then I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks very much.

Hi thanks Rizy7 but that doesn't make a difference. In fact even at the distance I took the "focus circle" (not sure what's its actually called!) goes green so I assume the camera thinks it has focused?

I can't see the pictures, but given the last post suggests a problem around focus, it may be you have accidentally turned on HDR. Which is frankly, pants: unless the subject and camera are totally static, it just doesn't work. I thought it was just me, but when I suggested this on Phandroid, pretty much everybody agreed with me.

To turn it off, press and hold to get the setting circle up then swipe straight up.

have u try reset your camera settings?

thanks for the posts guys appreciate, SiempreTuna I'm afraid HDR definitely isn't on. w0ng how do you reset camera settings?

Have u tried taking a picture not too close to an object?
My Nexus4 too have a problem when I try to take a picture too close to an object that it cannot focus.
The result is blurry image that you cannot read the text.

:)

Back up your photos first, not sure if this will erase them.
Settings > Apps > swipe right to ALL > down to Gallery > Clear Cache & Clear Data

Camera is part of the gallery app.

I'm not sure if it'll fix it or not but i doubt the drop did it...there's nothing mechanical in the focusing so i can't see it'd work fine at a distance and not close up.

might also make sure you lens is clean, i've had smudges on it affect focusing.

thanks for all the advice on this thread, nothing worked though so I got in touch with google and they kindly sent a replacement out. Think they felt sorry for me because I wanted to take decent photos on my honeymon next week!

The replacement arrived and has certainly sorted the problem. To replicate the original "bad" photo I posted here's the new version with the new phone
