Its been fixed with the new 5.7.893 update, in the mean time, move the apps from the externel SD card to the Internal SDcard. They are being deleted off the external due to programming recognizing the external SD as the media storage.

The 5.7.893 update also solves most of the 3g/ 4g drops. I still have them occasionally using after the phone comes out of sleep. Usually a quick plane mode cycle fixes it. The newest unofficial 5.8.894 is also suppose to help but dont DL that one yet.

I bought my Bionic on 9/8 and went back up to Verizon store on 9/12 due to 3 BSOD and multiple random reboots. We put in a new LTE Sim card, but it rebooted in the parking lot, so they gave me a new phone. In the almost 3 months since then, I have had only 2 BSOD and 2 random reboots. I LOVE my phone otherwise and hope that the OTA update fixes a few issues.

Spoke with vz rep today he told me update approved and rolling out now.

I bought my Bionic sometime in late September through my corporation. First few days I noticed that there were random restarts on the phone. I wasn't sure why, so I decided to hit up the forums and see if anyone else was having an issue. I found a few people stating something simlar to mine and some have returned their phone or exchanged, and some waited it out to see if an update would fix it. I figured I should wait and see.

After about a week owning the phone, the restarts stopped. So I thought, it must have been some weird glitch. Didn't think much of it. Keep in mind, I kept the phone unrooted and on stock. About a month into owning the phone, the restarts starting happening again. But this time more frequently. Almost once an hour to the point it kept restarting after a reboot. So I restored the phone and it worked for a short period. Then my phone would restart at the most random moments of typing. When I type a text message or an email on the phone, the keyboard locks up, then goes into the Dual Core screen and reboot.

At this point, I called Verizon. They informed me that an update is coming on its way... Then they asked if I have the standard dock and/or the Car dock navigation. I said yes to both. They stated that this was a known issue and that the OTA update would fix it. So I was furious with the response since this is a business phone. But they weren't willing to send a replacement for me. For shame Big Red!!!! But you do redeem yourselves later on in the story.

I then read that there was a leaked 5.7 update. So I thought to myself, "ok, let's give it a try." I downloaded the update and installed it and it seemed to work fine..... for about a week. After that, it started restarting again. So if Verizon wasn't willing to give me a new phone, might as well root it and find out if I can freeze some apps and see if that is what is causing the issue. That worked for about a couple of days, then the restarts once again.

About 7 days ago, I restored my phone to factory, removed root, etc. I showed the VZ rep at the Verizon store. He asked me the standard questions... Is the phone rooted? etc. I answered that it was stock. He then tested the phone out and luckily for me, it restarted for him! Thankfully, he issued out a replacement order for me. I received the phone about 2 days ago, and so far so good. I have a few app crashes here and there, but who doesn't really.

Lesson learned. Don't bother with Verizon over the phone. They do everything via a procedure method. Take it to an actual Verizon Store, not a reseller store. Let them perform tests and have them issue out your phone. There's something about a comfort level you get when you go into the store vs. having to try to process something over the phone that just makes things infinitely easier on your life. So thank you VZ!!!!

I'm not. My corporation does have a VZ account, so not sure if having some corporate account helps out any.

Nice attempt at trolling! Grammatical errors galore!

I don't bother calling because you can always find more information online then what some rep will give you, seems pointless to contact them.

I lose data connection and it's random if it comes back or not, or if rebooting will fix it but it always comes back. The problem seems to happen less often then when I first had the phone and I'm always in a location that has wifi so it's not too big of a deal. Plus, I know that when VZ finally decides to release the Nexus Prime, I'll switch over.

I just recieved my 3rd Bionic last night...first phone would not hold a data connection...2nd phone the screnn would black out and i could not get it to come back on...had to pull the battery to get it to function again.

I agree with what a lot of you are saying that it's better to look for information on line...my experience with the Store Reps and the Phone Reps is always the same...pull the battery...if that doesn't work factory reset...if that doesn't work...they have no answers for you

I've been complaining about the WiFi to 3G/4G hand off, random reboots and lengthy loss of data to name a few issues since early October. Support has held firm that the "update" originally due to be released in mid-November would help me out. Putting me past my 14-day return mark, I'm stuck with a phone resembling a paper weight. After speaking with my corporate rep, he issued me a replacement phone which in VZW's infinite wisdom was a refurbished POS. The power button is broken and still having the same issues. I think Motorola has really missed the mark with their recent devices and VZW has been stuck holding the bag... and really sticking it to the customers.

I'm sorry, but this sounds like trolling to me...complaining since October, but only 8 posts; just enough to bad mouth Motorola. They build rock-solid devices, not "POS" or "broken" buttons, especially on a refurbished model. The update was NEVER promised in "mid-November." The Bionic is an awesome phone and I think most people will be very happy with the OTA update. The RAZR has been getting great reviews as well..."missed the mark," I think you should actually buy one and see how well-built they are.

Ok we all know there are major issues with the Bionic. For the past two months, a lot of us have been sticking it out and waiting for this all fabulous update that Motorola is cooking for us.

But I'm curious to know, out of all the people here on this forum, who has actually contacted Verizon about any issues they've been experiencing? Are you waiting patiently for the update, or are you at your wits end?

I was without data connection today for almost 12 hours. I've fiddled and experimented with this phone so much the past few weeks, I think I've reached my limit. I'm visiting my Verizon store tomorrow to see what can be done.

I am on a second bionic that is a warranty replacement for the original one I got on launch day. I have had nothing but connection issues and wish that I could return it.

I am at my wits end and have called vzw at least 5 times now. I got told last week that the update was on it's way and it would fix my problems.

Now here I sit and when I check for the update it says

"Check for update is not available at this time.

Try again later."

This is just plain and simple unacceptable. I am patient but I have now spent a good amount of my personal time on the phone with verizon. I can't tell you the number of times I have been trying to get somewhere with the navigation and the data signal disappears.

At this point the update better make this flawless or I am going to demand a refund and upgrade price.

Verizon/MOTO I am disappoint :(

I am glad your bionic is good - both of the two bionics I have had are POS

I am not a newb - I had the droid one and before that numerous windows mobile smartphones going back to the early 2000s.

I have never had a device just completely loose the data signal like the bionic does. My old droid one went from 3g to 1x on occasion but it never just disappeared the signal like my bionic has been doing.

Have you had (or used) any other 4G device from VZW?

I have a Bionic (personal) and a Thunderbolt (business) and both have the same signal drop problem when bouncing from 4G to 3G and back.

Now there is definitely some issues with the Bionic, that I do not deny, but the data dropping issue is certainly not exclusive to the Bionic.

I was tired of the data connectivity and the constant ghost turning on, so I took it in to Verizon. The first store said they didn't know much about it and to take it to an actual "wireless" Verizon store. Did that, and they haven't heard of "any" problems with the phone, and to call Motorola instead. Ah thanks for the help.
