'Have you forgot your phone' alert not working

Hi, before the wifi connectivity was introduced and the only connection was bluetooth, my moto 360 1st gen used to alert me when I moved to far away from my phone, this was a great feature. Now that my watch and phone are connected with wifi this feature only works when I go outside to my bin at home, not much good. How do I get it to alert me using bluetooth like it used to? When I'm away from wifi there isn't a connection between the two at all. If I'm in a cafe without wifi I and leave my phone on the table I want the alert to work?

I never had such a feature built into stock AW. Of course there are third-party apps that do so
