Have you purchased from NEWGG?

I just purchased the S3 from new egg and after doing so I read that they sell refurbished phones (first concern).

Then after reading more closely, I discovered that the phone is the 3G version (second concern).

The phone is unlocked so I suspect it may be from a country other that the USA.

I have done more stupid things before and hope that I will not regret the purchase. Has anyone had any experience with this web retailer? Are the phone junk?

Thanks!

Rex

I shop on newegg all the time for pc parts and such and I've bought two laptops and a tablet from there. Meanwhile I've only bought one item refurbished, a monitor, and it was perfect from head to toe. Everything ships from Califrnia so I doubt it's going to be from an out of country place. And newegg makes A LOT of typo mistakes from my dealing with them the past 6 years.

Get your hopes up, I doubt it will be anything other than you wanted nor anything crap or broken. Check back here and let us know how it comes.

Thanks Yancy! That made me feel a bit better. I'll let you guys know about the phone. Two coworkers just got one and being an electronic nut, I couldn't help myself!

I have bought i9300. I have had ti return it to the exporter out of Miami three times. It takes several weeks to get the repairs done. I believe that the phone just had problems from the factory. The problem was USB port and ear plug port. I had the bezel that cracked replace that cost $ 250.

Never bought a phone from them. Built my PC with parts from them. They generally have good customer service and usually have competitive pricing but their listings are fairly rubbish. I've spotted a lot of errors and oddities over the years of browsing there. They typically won't clearly mark refurbs (but if something is super cheap compared to what it should be, that's a sign!) and they don't clear out old listings which can be annoying if you are looking for something specific.

I keep shopping there though because they are still one of the best retailers (online or otherwise) for computer parts

The box came with Samsung seal on it?
What is the code, GT-I9300 or different?

9300 is the model sold overseas, 9500 seems to be the USA version. Phone hasn't arrived yet but I feel a little more comfortable about buying from them after reading some of the replies here.

Noo mate, you're wrong :-) Its two different models (Samsung I9500 Galaxy S4 vs. Samsung I9300 Galaxy S III - GSMArena.com).
GT-I9300(Galaxy S3) is the last years flagship model and GT-I9500-9505 (Galaxy S4) is the recent year flagship.
These codes are usually for International (GSM) models, american models have usually different code (something like this :Samsung SGH-I545).
If they selling you refurbished unit it has to be stated on the invoice and its usually up to 30% cheaper than new unit.
Also the refurb might have box with tear&wear marks or just plain brown/black color.
New unit must have Samsungs seal on it (silver with black writing) and if you tear it down it should leave the writing on the box. The box is also sealed in plastic foil.
Hope you'll be aright when it arrives...

Aspot,

I love being wrong when the news is good! Now I am very excited to get it! I am not eligible for phone upgrade so I paid $400 for it. I'll be content if it is refurbished and giddy if it is sealed in a Samsung box!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the info.

You're welcome.
I am on my third S3. Sold them but kept getting back to them as its really a fantastic device.
The first unit had to go as I was experimenting with custom ROMs - imo crap. Got nothing but issues (missingIMEI/SN etc).
The second went as wanted LTE version (GT-I9305) which I have now and will keep it until Samsung S5/S6 comes out :-)
