Stop me if you've seen this somewhere, but I've been reading reviews, first impressions and forum threads (and shamelessly watching dozens of unboxing videos) all over the place as I've impatiently waited for my black 32gb Nexus 5x to arrive, and I haven't seen this brought up before.
I just got the Nexus 5x yesterday after ordering on launch day through Project Fi, and one thing really jumps out at me about holding this phone: The physical materials feel exactly like the Nexus 9! Not just that. The angles of the edge are the same. The power/volume buttons (angular, flat and a little too flush) are the same. Aside from the fingerprint sensor and camera hump, the back plate feels the same, too.
I seriously feel like I'm holding a mini Nexus 9 in my hands, which to me conveys a lot more about the experience than the plethora of professional reviews that settle for saying "It feels good in the hand."
I've had a Nexus 9 for about six months. Before that, I had a Nexus 10 and an original Nexus 7. Though I get a lot of enjoyment out of it and I doubt I'd settle for another Android tablet currently, the Nexus 9 isn't the most physically pleasurable thing to hold, mostly because the hard edges are not rounded at all. So, I kind of wish someone would have warned me about the Nexus 5x.
I obviously still would have bought the phone. I'm all in on Project Fi and, by rule, a Nexus. I'm betting I'll even love the phone once I get a case on it. I guess I'm just kind of shocked few people made the immediate connection I did to the Nexus 9, which, again, I really enjoy (with a cover on).
Anyone else notice this or am I just going crazy?
