Having Lag Issues

My phone died last night, I charged it this morning and rebooted.. Now all day I've had pretty bad lag. It's been pretty inconsistent, it will lag for a while then it seems to run fine for a while. It got so bad at one point that sense actually forced closed itself then re loaded. I ran a quadrant test just to see and my score went from in 1500's last week to around 900 today... Something just isn't right. Should I just take the phone back to best buy or is there something I can do to get it running smoothly again?

That is weird. Do a hard reset first (back up your data since everything will be wiped) - that's the first thing Sprint will probably do before giving you a new phone. Maybe look over your installed apps and Google search the titles to see if anyone else has reported lag from any of them?

This happens to so many devices.. I really think it's a manufacturers defect. I think only an update can really correct this problem. Some devices seem to handle this issue better than others . Mine I get it while using the installed gingerbread keyboard.

I don't think this is cause by any application(s). . This is a manufacturer problem. This need to be reported to the manufacturing company or your carrier.

PS. A reset might or might not even fix the issue... however, it would the better choice considering the problem at hand.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. I have done a reset and deleted most of the 3rd party apps and it's still acting pretty wonky. The lag has gotten a little better but I'm still getting apps that force close randomly. I'm new to Android but IMO a week old device shouldn't be having these issues. If it continues today ill probably try and exchange the phone.

Did you have lag immediately after your hard reset, before you installed any apps (at all)? That's your test right there. If you hard reset and there's no lag, and then it lags after you install apps, your apps are causing it (a simplified view but that's what Sprint will say). If you hard reset and the phone is still lagging immediately after the hard reset, then get right to a store and get it replaced.

To the above poster - you are installing a keyboard from an OS update that has not been tested or released for the Shift and you blame HTC for problems? That doesn't make sense to me.

p.s., OP, do you know the difference between a hard and soft reset? Sounds like you only did a soft reset and "deleted apps". Hard reset wipes your phone completely to factory spec. That's what Sprint will do. You have to reinstall all your apps from the Market, but you should test for lag before you do that.

Nope, I didn't install any apps after the factory reset and still had lag. After the reset is actually when Sense completely shut down on me. I used it all day today and there's something just not working quite right, it's getting exchanged this afternoon.

Sounds like the right solution then. That's a mystery as to why a dead battery would subsequently cause lag in a phone that was reset to factory specs. That is extremely concerning to me.

First let me say I am very new to Android. I would like to back-up my Shift. I attempted to start the process last night and realized I don't quite know what I am doing. With BB there was a desktop manager and I could back up the whole phone and my 3rd party apps. Does HTC have something similar? I went to the support website and they don't have anything available for this phone other than the manual. I am a Google user so my mail, and calendar are already "backed-up" via the sync.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There are apps on the Market you can use to do a full back-up of the phone if you need to, not sure of any to recommend though, as I don't backup the phone myself lol.

Now that I know it is possible, I just need a good app/program. Thanks!

Does anyone have any good applications/software for a device/computer that you use to do a full back-up? Specific names and or links, would be greatly helpful.

Thanks!
