Having problems rooting a Droid Incredible

I have a droid incredible purchased May 2012 and had been on verizon. I do not want to activate the phone just root it so i may sue it's functions in a wifi setting. i have tried a number of procedure,s but none work. when I turn the phone on i can never get beyond the active phone. i cannot get into setting, etc. i am using a mac and have tried a number of options but none have worked. some don;t recognize the device when i plug it in, i can never get to settings on the phone - what do i do?

When you first start the phone you still have to log in with a gmail account whether the phone is active on VZW or not. you can use Wi-Fi to complete the setup. Once you are through the setup then you can get to the settings.

Note: if you are on Gingerbread, you wll have to downgrade to Froyo to get full root with Unrevoked.
