The pictures have to align perfectly for HDR to work. Since the cameras are mounted side-by-side and hence taken at slightly different perspective they can't be aligned. You'll get faint shadows around the edges.I just got an HDR app called "HDR Camera" testing it now I doubt it uses both cameras, probably just takes two pics simultaneously using one lense. Maybe you could contact the developer to optimize the app for the two lenses in the EVO 3D?

No. Read jalbrant's comment again.I'm sure that a software solution could be implemented to align the two pictures after taking it. It probably wouldn't take too much processing power either since HTC knows the distance of each camera from each other; at least compared to having a software solution digging through the picture trying to find some point to align -- think adobe photoshop hdr merge.
