Headphone jack- no sound

I have a straight talk Samsung S5- I have Samsung headphones (they came with the phone). This is the first time I've used the headphone jack. They click in (I can hear the click) and it shows on the notification bar that they are plugged in. Only problem is- there's no sound when I start up Spotify. The external speaker works and I've used blue tooth with a speaker on this phone. I also just updated the phone to 6.0.1. today. I looked in the jack- no debris or dust. I keep a dust plug in it at all times. I've only had it 2 weeks. Any suggestions?

Have you plugged it in fully? Fully, note.

Try the headphones in some other device. If they work, the jack is defective. If they don't, the headphones are defective.

But, as Belodion said, insert the plug fully, not just until you feel the first click.
