Headphone jack not working correctly

Before I go on with this post I want to apologize ahead of time for any grammatical or spelling errors as I am typing this out on my phone.

I noticed that when I try to play any kind of audio through any headphones the audio becomes choppy, as if the pause button was pressed so many times so fast that it was too hard for it to keep up, through the speaker. The weird thing is that this is only with headphones. Earbuds and speakers work just fine. I have no idea what's wrong with them because they work on my tablet and even my little square iPod nano. Any suggestions? Thanks ahead!

Welcome to Android Central! Do those headphones have remote controls, like Pause, Play, Skip, etc.? If so, do you know if they're designed specifically for iPhone? There can be subtle variations in the headphone jack configuration between phones, so a headphone "Made for iPhone" often won't be fully compatible with an Android device.

No there are no remote controls on them. It does it with any headphones that go on the ears as opposed to inside them. It does it even with the really cheap ones

That's strange--I've never encountered that issue before. You've tried over-the-ear headphones from multiple brands, and it's the same thing? Or are they all the same brand (or same model)?

Ok, last thought--is your phone in a case? If so, are the plug housings (i.e., the plastic part, not the actual metal plug) for all of those headphones a little on the fat side, such that they might prevent the plug from going in all the way? I'm trying to think of something common among over-the-ear headphones, and the only thing I can think of is that the plug housings tend to be bulkier than those for earbuds.

SO I have similar issue with a pair of Monster brand earbuds. They were working fine with a new Razr Maxx, then suddenly the sound would cut in and out, and skip backwards as well. These do have controls for volume and such but I never use them. So, here's the weird thing; other earbuds work fine, even a set of desktop speakers plugged into the jack work without issue. That seems to indicate it's the Monster earbuds, right? Well they continue to work fine in other devices, such as my laptop tablet, and other Droid Razr's.:(
