I've tried several headphones on the N7 from Apple earbuds to Sony noise canceling but still hear nothing. Before sending back to Asus thought I'd ask around. Thank you

Lint or other debris can get stuck in the jack and interfere with the contacts. Try rooting around with a damp toothpick, or blowing it out with a can of compressed air.
Also, keep in mind that with the N7 headphone jack, you typically have to push the plug in until you hear or feel it click. Sometimes you have to push fairly hard.
I have had other people say this and the fix was push the headphone jack in more. I know it sounds dumb but when my tablet was new it was quite hard to push the headphone jack in at first. It loosened eventually and now it is like normal.
+1. Keep pushing it in hard - I found that even when I thought it was all the way in I needed to push harder before it was really in. After a while you'll find it'll get a bit looser for you and will be easier.
