Heating during and after calls... Play store to blame??

I've been experiencing a heating problem for a while now. It only happens during or after calls, and hardly ever for anything else. I've noticed that my phone starts to run very hot, especially around the camera area.

This seems to tie in with an auto sync taking place.

Checking the data usage stats it looks like the issue is with the play store. Every time I check the background data usage is going up and up.

Why would a phone call kick off play store to start syncing something??
The play store background data is pretty huge too... Can be as much as 2gb per month.. and I don't have auto update switched on.

I've also noticed that after a call I generally get update notifications, so this also supports the fact that my phone calling and play store are linked in someway.

Anyone got any ideas what is going on here??

It shouldn't activate the Play Store at all. Does your WiFi connection turn off when you're on the phone and reconnect when you get off the phone? That's a dumb question, I know, considering you said its using trackable data which most likely means mobile data.

Maybe select to update applications when on WiFi only? This may help prevent this issue from occurring. This can be done within the Play Store by hitting the menu key.

Forgot to mention, when this happens play store is mainly using data via wifi. It still happens when on mobile data but nowhere near as much as when on wifi.

It's really strange and it is definitely linked to making phone calls. As soon as I end a call I just know my phone will get really hot, it'll start to lag, the little wifi icon will show constant activity, the auto sync notification will appear and play store's background wifi data usage level will start to increase at a rate of about 10mb every few mins.

It doesn't happen when using the phone for anything else.
