Hello everyone,

It is both a happy and sad day today. I say goodbye to WebOS (at least till I can upgrade again), but I say hello to a working smartphone (the Photon).

I look forward to reading all the articles on customizing android so I can make it look/work the way I want it to.

Thanks,
Gerard

I'm in the same boat. Just buried my Palm Pre minus in its launch day casket in my desk drawer. I really did love webOS, but its time to move on. Picked up a Photon 4G for $99 dollars at Best Buy Mobile and I'm really enjoying the hardware. Still getting used to android but I'm warming up to it. Its going to take me a while to get used to not closing applications, and the notification system but I love the app catalogs on Android. See you all in the forums.

Hey you two, please share more about your experiences with the Photon. It is on my short list to replace my trusty Pre. Still nervous to switch.

I'd wait for the Nexus Prime, rumored to come out in October. Or if you can't wait go for the Samsung Galaxy S II which should be out in a couple weeks.

I absolutely love this phone. I am so glad I decided not to wait around for some half-baked solution (such as a FrankenPre3, though I don't that is possible). Everything is just fast about this phone, as soon as you touch an icon, the app loads. (And not just into the loading screen either :-))

And I have to say, the browser is just a way more refined experience than the Pre's (although I did have 2.1 on it, and as a result it was a lot laggier than 1.4.5). And when you double-tap to zoom in, the text reflows so that you don't need to scroll horizontally to view wider webpages.

Also, I was worried about Android looking clunky compared to WebOS. Well I don't know when they changed the look, or if its just the Photon, the ugly white notification bar is not there; instead there's a svelte dark blue one that looks gorgeous.

There are a few things I miss though. I had Music Remix on my Pre and that allowed you to view Track Info, skip, etc without unlocking the phone. Right now, I can't find any lockscreen widgets that perform similarly. The default one does not update on track skip and the one other I could find (Phantom Music something or other) doesn't support the music player in Gingerbread without a paid upgrade.

One more thing, if you do get the Photon, you should download widget locker because the default lockscreen is just inadequate. I've heard that different Launchers perform more than the stock one, but I haven't tried any yet, so I can't comment on that.

Having said all of that, if the Pre3 or some other WebOS phone does come to Sprint, I'd still switch back.
