I am new here and new to android generally, but have been reading. I just got a new phone and wasn't aware that the 4.4.2 android version is just a mockery. How do I start to root and where do I get a higher version of say 6.0 and above to upgrade to please. Thanks and greeting to all. John
Phone is G-tab with 16gb dual sim. Can my media files be saved?

Welcome to the forums. As far as rooting or flashing a custom ROM, it's going to depend if someone has developed anything for it. What is your model number?

Welcome to the forums, John! I apologize that I am not much help in the rooting world; however, I am sure our more experienced users will be able to further assist you with your rooting questions. The only thing I know about roots is, well - I need to condition them and not fry them with my curling iron. 🤣

Welcome to Android Central! I'm not familiar with the G-tab phone. If it was released with 4.4 it's unlikely it can handle 6.0 and/or above. That being said the phone may work just fine on it's version of Android.

Welcome to the forums. I agree with previous posters, searched a little bit and I think it's going to be very difficult to find a custom ROM for this phone.

I am not against rooting, but you really should understand what you are getting into before doing so. Rooting can permanently brick your phone making it useless. If you cannot afford to buy a replacement then I would advise against rooting.

Welcome. :)

That was the version of the OS on my Nexus 5 when I bought it in early 2014. It’s pretty good.

I couldn't find any listing of custom ROMs for that device. There may not be any available.

Googling around I found out this is not a phone, but rather it is a 10.1 inch tablet. I highly doubt you will be able to find a custom ROM for it. I think you are stuck on Android 4.4.
