Although I've been following the Android Central rss feed, I have just created an account in order to participate. :)

While my time with a MotoDroid was cut short due to a defective first Droid and my 30 days ran out with Verizon's Worry Free Guarantee before I felt 100% comfortable with it. I'm currently using a BlackBerry Storm 9530 with plans to get an Android based phone again soon (my New any two is up 2.19.2010 & I hope I can wait). ;)

One of the things is that I only have one arm & I did not have the time to give the Droid a fair chance. The process of having to hold down the hardware keyboards Shift key & drag to select text in e-mails & the browser requires more practice than I had the time to get used to so I'm hoping if I wait a little longer a different device will come out that may better suit me. Battery life was pretty bad (not all positive feedback as to weather the 2.0.1 update REALLY helped in this area) and I've considered the Eris but it has worse battery life from what I've read.

Anyway, I hope to give input & help when I can. I am also looking forward to at least a MotoDroid since after using it for a couple of weeks has spoiled me with the lack of speed etc. of this Storm! :D

I have the Eris, and I operate it with one hand MOST of the time. (Even though I do have two hands, I usually have a beverage/purse/dog leash/whatever in one, and the phone in the other.) My coworker has the Droid, so I tried it and - you're right - using the keyboard with one hand is a total pain.

And - for your battery concerns with the Eris, yeah - I had some battery issues when I first got it, but then I got an Application Manager so I could identify which programs kept launching themselves, then I went to the settings for them and changed it so they wouldn't update as often or - with some apps - ever. Some I had to uninstall because they refused to behave. You can also disable your Wifi and GPS if you don't want it hunting for these things 24/7.

Also I got an app called "Locale" that allows me to create settings for when the battery is low. It automatically shuts down all nonessential functions, so you can still make a call if you need to till you can get to a charger. I can also set it for when I'm at work, at home, whatever.

In addition - I've walked around with a low battery for way longer than I imagined I could. I've never ACTUALLY had the thing shut down on me.

Whatever kind of Android devices are out there in February 2010 (things change so fast!) I recommend the Eris, or any other with the Sense UI. It's so easy to use, and allows an extreme level of customization that really pleases me!

You should have been able to take it back for a warranty replacement even though the thirty days are up. I just took my husbands Verizon phone back after having it for 37 days. They shipped him out a new one express mail. And we had to send the old one back.
