Hey everyone...

So after years of being on BlackBerry (my first device was the Original Bold 9000), and not having used anything for my mobile device since, I am strongly considering moving to android, since BBs are moving that way. I'm usually on forums looking for info, trying to learn about the new features, tips, and tricks, or looking for solutions to some obscure issues. I am leaning towards a Galaxy device if I decide to pass on a BlackBerry Android (Priv). Just wanted to introduce myself here, and I hope to learn a lot and converse with many of you!

Hi there, welcome to the AC Forums! Since the Hub is the one thing most people miss about BB when moving to another platform, here's a nice read for you about it, since it's now on Android! :) Welcome on board!

Thanks for this video! I have to admit, something that I am torn with between the Priv and other Android devices is the direct integration of all of the BlackBerry services, vs. having to subscribe to them. I'd have to imagine a Note 7 or even Galaxy S7 with these baked in services would make it an amazing device! I love so much of what is on BB10 for how it makes my daily communications between my work colleagues and messages from friends and family so easy.

And thank you to all the other moderators for the warm welcome! I hope to be able to make more use of these forums as well!

From one BlackBerry enthusiast to another, welcome to Android Central!

Also, have you checked out CrackBerry yet? That forum is also pretty cool. :)

Yes, yes I have. I've been on there since I had my first Bold 9000, before all of the other mobile nations sites started popping up. I was a long time reader, and then joined the forums. It's been a big help for me and all of my BB devices. Bold 9000, Torch 9800 & 9810, Playbook (yep, I bought one), Z10, and now Passport.

Admittedly, I was always disappointed with the way the iPhone was presented, and it made me not like the device. Though I have since started to be less bother by it. Though I was also never on board with what Google/Android had to offer when it first came out. The unfortunate turn of BB has me looking else where, and with the up tick in technology (as well as my needs from my device) I have to really make a decision on where to go and more importantly, what device I want to carry on a regular basis and always be satisfied with it. I try to keep my devices at least 2-3 years each.

Sup Serkle K! You might remember me from the other place. ;) Been using the BlackBerry Hub and such on my Android devices LONG before they became officially available. They work quite well! I'm using a One Plus Three, but certainly you can't go wrong with a Galaxy device (I had the SG4, SG5, Note 2 and Note 4)

Yes! Your name looks familiar! I know this is an introduction thread, but if you don't mind, could you let me know your thoughts (pros/cons) on the One+3? Have you used any of the new GS7s or Note devices in recent years? Trying to see if there are any major difference between the "Pure Android OS" vs Samsung's iteration.

Love the One Plus, it's CLOSE to pure but note quite has a few nice customizations, similar to the BB Priv (in that it's close to stock but not quite). The customization I use is a tap to wake, there's also other cool on screen gestures but I don't use them. For example you can set them to control the flashlight and music. But otherwise it's VERY close to stock. I was never a huge touch wiz fan. In particular I don't like how they do the swipe down control panel. Yes I have tried the latest version. My co-worker has a S6 Edge and my mom has a Grand Prime. (do NOT get the Grand Prime, it's cheap for a reason ;) ) I DO really like the curved edges on the Samsung devices. HOWEVER the One Plus 3 has a subtle curve that is cool and makes the phone nice to hold in your hand. I'm still not sold on the side gestures and had them on my BB Priv, didn't use them much. I understand the latest Samsung's are better.

In the end I think the One Plus Three is the better value, more bang for your buck. Now IF your paying over time via your carrier this may not matter and is not an option for you with the OP3, BUT for 400, you get a phone that has the specs and features of a 700 flagship phone!

I'm leaning towards picking up a device unlocked. I would get one through my carrier (AT&T), but I have had an unlocked device for a few years now, and I just like the flexibility I have with an unlocked device. I also like the fact that (at least with the Priv) I could get most patches and updated on a more regular and scheduled basis versus waiting for the carrier to push it out. Which leads me to my dilemma with getting a Samsung device. Most people I know with them say they haven't received many, if any, security patches or updates other than major OS upgrades.

One Plus has a bad track record for updates, BUT so far so good with the Three. I have received several updates in the month or so I have owned it. BlackBerry has been AWESOME, on my Priv I got monthly security patches sometimes even before the Nexus got them! Plus several major updates AND the wait for Marshmallow wasn't that bad for the second owner either (my Dad).
