My name is Don. I'm from SC. I'm 63 years old. I got my first smart phone when the Google Galaxy Nexus came out. I like it a lot but it has one feature that doesn't quite do what I want: the speech to text feature. I'm a writer and would like to use speech to text instead of typing everything. I'd rather not buy and learn a new computer program just for that. The speech to text function on my phone works fine but it has a very short limit to how many words it will translate into text.

My purpose on this forum is to learn whether the Nexus 7 or my phone has or will have the ability to translate speech to text for unlimited amounts of time instead of cutting off after a few sentences.

I also hope to learn how to move text documents to and from the Nexus 7 and my desktop computer. If speech to text is fully implemented and if text documents can be moved to and from the tablet with ease, I'll ask for one for Christmas.

I'm sure there is much more to learn about the Android operating system and learning more interests me but those are my two main issues.

Thanks,
Don

Welcome to the forums and congrats on the Nexus! I haven't had much experience with dictation in the phone but I have the Swype keyboard which comes with Dragon dictation. I've only used it a little bit it seams pretty accurate and I haven't noticed a limit. Something to consider.

Swyped from my Jelly Bean infected Galaxy Nexus via Tapatalk 2.

Welcome aboard. SwiftKey also has dictation software. I've played with it and it's surprisingly accurate at my normal speech rate. I have not used it for long documents, however, but it's certainly worth checking out.

Welcome to the forum Doug, hope you enjoy them as much as I do reading. Sorry but can't help with the dictation question as I have never used it in recent years.

As for moving docs between your Gnex and computer you have several options. You can sync your docs to any of the cloud services and access and download them to any device. You can use the usb cord and physically drag and drop files, and you can look into the various WiFi syncing apps available in the Play Store.

I use Dropbox on all my phones, tablets and computers and personally found it the best method out of all the cloud services.
