Hello & Help Please

hello everyone, Im very glad I came across this site. Im new to smartphones & although Im a smart woman, my phone is way smarter then me! =) I have no Idea what tethering, root, etc. means. Ive asked friends & even my teenagers for help & they make it sound so easy. What is tethering exactly? Does it cost $, I have no Idea how to set my phone up. Im sorry & honestly Im not dumb, just not tech smart. I have the samsung epic 4G> any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all :-[

Welcome to AC! Learning a new device can be a real pain. There are a few places that you can look that explain a lot. Check the getting started link in my signature. Rushrl put together a great thread on getting started. To answer your two questions, tethering is using your phone as an modem for your computer. Charges very by carrier. "Root" is where you have your phone set to be able to access the "root" system files. It is a little more on the advanced user side so I would just get the basics down first. Feel free to ask any questions that you have or can't find. Everyone here is helpful, after all we were all new at some point

Coming from a newbie standpoint what i do is just read, read and when i'm confused i read some more. Yeah I have a job, but figuring all this out is fun for me. I'm a bb transplant so setting up my inspire is fun, not that i have any bb regrets. Enjoy the threads, but more importatly, enjoy your new phone.
