Hello everyone! My name is Nate. I'm currently a BlackBerry fanatic and am really looking into switching to Android. I love BlackBerry to death, but it's becoming something that I'm not liking; Beta Software. That's all that it seems to be doing is testing, testing, testing. With Android, it seems that it's very stable, people love it (even though others love BlackBerry), and it works 99.99999% of the time. I'm looking to get the Samsung Captivate more than likely as I've seen it, played with it, and loved it. There are a few things I'd like to know though.

1. With the Captivate, is it able to have custom ringtones for contacts text messaging and phone calls?\
2. Does it have the ability to push notifications to the phone? (Facebook, twitter, foursquare, etc?)
3. How's the battery life?

I don't know if I'm making the correct choice or not. I currently have the BlackBerry Torch which I love, but am becoming unsatisfied with how BlackBerry is coming along.

Hi Nate!

Welcome to Android Central and to the world of Android. You're BB story mirrors that of a lot of other members, so I'm sure you'll feel right at home. I'm going to copy this thread over to the Captivate forums so you're questions will get answered.

3. Smartphone-ish, it is ok

Battery will likely be less than you have now, though I cannot speak for the Torch. The screen is larger on the captivate, you will love it more, so you will touch it more. For tasks other than messaging, it is also much superior, so you will end up using it more. I also came from the BB world, and this was my experience.

You will miss your unified Inbox, as that is pretty much (IMO) the only area that the BB is superior. You will get over it in fairly short order though.

I think Cory missed with the forum he was moving this to :p

For the push notifications for Facebook, they're supposed to work, but I've never been able to get them to work consistently. It's a problem on Facebook's end, and they claim it isn't an issue, but many users claim it doesn't work. Other than that, most services will have push notifications.

My Torch usually lasts me 13 hours full charge.... sometimes longer depending how much I use it. As for the unified inbox... I don't even use it. I don't let my facebook, twitter, foursquare, email, etc use the unified inbox, I keep them separate. I loved it, but felt piled after a while

That's about what you'll get with they Cappy, as long as you aren't constantly watching movies or anything like that.

Awesome! Yeah, however if I do, I'll always have a charger wherever I'm at. xD I'm really considering going Android... Absolutely loving that I can have netflix on the phone as well as youtube videos playing accurately.

Does the Captivate get flash on it or no? I dind't know if it did or not.

Have you thought about waiting until the infuse comes out?(which should b soon) that one should be outstanding!!!! and its a galaxy s as well!!!!

hello, nate! I obviously own the cappy, and LOVE it. However, it has almost been out for a year now, and if i I were you, I would strongly consider waiting until another, better phone comes out on AT&T (I mean, there's 4g phones out now, and even the Inspire is like a newer version of the Captivate). Personally, I would just wait for the next Nexus device, but even if you don't want to wait for another phone, I would also suggest buying the Nexus S with support for AT&T 3G bands. It's pretty much the exact same specs, but it's the stock Google experience, and you know you'll always be provided with the latest updates straight from the source.

Hope this helps.

I'm a former blackberry user and don't regret moving forward. You can't go wrong regardless of which device you choice. Android is such and awesome experience!

You guys are going onto the next question I was going to bring up.

Which phone should I get on AT&T that's android? I mean, I love the captivate and everything, but was just wondering what phone I should get or wait for one to come out better. What phone's coming up on AT&T soon again?

Go for a device with a front facing camera. I never thought I would use it until I had one! :)

Picking one up used off contract, and then sliding into SGSII when released would be my move were I buying today.
