I am considering moving to a Samsung Continuum from an HTC Imagio (WinMo) which I love dearly. With my WinMo 6.5 phone I am able to tether both wired and wireless using my data package, unlimited, with no need to pay the extra $20 to Verizon for a whole lousy 2gb.

I am hoping to be able to do the same with the Continuum, I think I need to root it first, and install an application, but I am unsure and a bit confused how to do either.

Will I be able to use the regular Android Marketplace? Rooting is like SU on Linux, correct? So I should just be moving files around? What application should use to root, and what application for tethering?

The only reason I am interested in rooting is for the data package tether. I currently use the $30 Verizon data package.

Any and all help is very welcome. I cannot afford the Fascinate, and my daughter has the Continuum, which I absolutely fell in love with.

I just successfully rooted my daughter's Continuum, and installed wireless tethering which worked FAMOUSLY thanks to this forum. Two issues:

I had to upload the apk to my website then download and run it to install it. The direction kept saying "mount the SD card". How exactly do I do that? When using USB on Windows 7 all I get is autorun options and the CDFS directory with the drivers on it.

Is there an application for USB tethering? I can charge while tethering if need be.

Most phones, when you plug them into USB will have a pop up or a option in the pull down notification window to "Connect as Hard Drive" or "Mount as Drive" other options include charge only and USB debugging. Select the Hard drive option and your SD card should appear on your computer as a drive.

I'm not sure exactly what it says for your phone, the device forums are the best place to find that out.

Thank you for the welcome and the replies. Unfortunately, there is no option for a drive whatsoever. Only an autorun, then when I browse the phone all I see is a directory with the drivers which is the CDFS format, a virtual CD. When I browse the phone I see the SD card...
