I got my nexus 7 two days ago. It was working fine, until now. The accelerometer can't work. Screen can't flip into landscape and back, and I've tested it out on games like doodle jump. I can't move the character, which means the accelerometer just ain't working anymore, is it? I tried doing a factory reset, but it didn't seem to help. Maybe it was due to the recent update? I can't seem to remove that update even after the reset. I have got no clue as to what I should do. Can someone please help???

Yea I tried everything. I even downloaded those applications before posting this. And they just tell me that they're waiting for the accelerometer to respond or something along those lines.

Or perhaps there's an app that allows me to force my nexus 7's screen to flip? If so please do tell me. Because its not really important that I use the accelerometer, I'm just annoyed by the fact that I can't use it to flip my screen anytime I want. In order to watch a video in landscape, for example, I have to open an application that uses landscape mode, quit it and return to the video. And that is definitely not what I spent my money for. If you guys could help, I would really appreciate it! :)

You are on at least version 4.2 of Android, aren't you? And you're not rooted, using some custom ROM, are you? Assuming you're on 4.2+ and that you're not using a custom ROM, let's specifically verify the following two items. Sorry if this is basic knowledge that you already know and have tried, but I'm not exactly sure what your knowledge base is.

I'm not sure if the accelerometer has to do with screen rotation, but at this point it's irrelevant. If you are using AndroSensor, and under the Accelerometer section you see a message that the app is waiting for the accelerometer, and the four measurement numbers (x, y, z, and delta) aren't constantly fluctuating, then this would indicate to me that you have a defective device. The same holds true for the gyroscope and orientation measurements. If so, return it for exchange or repair.

Also, you haven't specifically stated if you have turned on automatic screen rotation. You've only said that you have "tried everything", which doesn't really help us help you. From the upper right section of the screen, swipe down to access the quick settings menu. If the center square says Rotation Locked, tap on it once so that it says Auto Rotate. If the home screen still doesn't rotate from portrait to landscape and back again, then you likely have a defective device that should be returned for exchange or repair.

Yes, there is a rotation app that forces screen rotation and lets you customize it's effects on an app by app basis. It was very popular with N7 users before the Jelly Bean 4.2 update because prior to that update, the home screen wouldn't rotate. However, if you have a defective device based upon the above tests, then installing this app seems pointless to me unless you have your unit repaired. It's called Ultimate Rotation Control, available as a free 7 day trial.

Before you rma the device, is it possible the accelerometer is stuck? If so, you could try giving the device a hard smack to see if you can "unstick" it...pretty sure I saw someone here post similar advice for this...

Obviously, I take no responsibility for further damage resulting from following this advice... :p

Well, by "trying everything" it obviously meant that I've done everything possible to try and fix this issue. And that includes turning on auto rotation. From what you have told me, I'm now sure that my device is faulty. Hmmmm... But I really don't have the time to get it replaced... Which was why I wanted an application to force the screen rotation. Well... Anyways, Thanks a lot for the info guys :) really appreciate it!

Definitely try what mr_nobody suggested. It was a very interesting thread that he referenced. Let us know what happens.

This certainly sounds like a frustrating issue, so I understand your impatience and wanting to describe and post the problem as quickly as possible. But when you say that you tried everything, it really makes it hard for forum members to give you suggestions.

The thought might be that if you've tried everything, there's really no reason for us to pitch in and use our time submitting ideas that you've already tried. That's why it's so important to be very specific regarding your problem and previously attempted solutions. It'll save everyone time and get you a possible solution much faster. Of course, this applies to everyone who needs advice, not just you. I'm really not picking on you, even though it sounds like I am!
