Or perhaps there's an app that allows me to force my nexus 7's screen to flip? If so please do tell me. Because its not really important that I use the accelerometer, I'm just annoyed by the fact that I can't use it to flip my screen anytime I want. In order to watch a video in landscape, for example, I have to open an application that uses landscape mode, quit it and return to the video. And that is definitely not what I spent my money for. If you guys could help, I would really appreciate it!
You are on at least version 4.2 of Android, aren't you? And you're not rooted, using some custom ROM, are you? Assuming you're on 4.2+ and that you're not using a custom ROM, let's specifically verify the following two items. Sorry if this is basic knowledge that you already know and have tried, but I'm not exactly sure what your knowledge base is.
I'm not sure if the accelerometer has to do with screen rotation, but at this point it's irrelevant. If you are using AndroSensor, and under the Accelerometer section you see a message that the app is waiting for the accelerometer, and the four measurement numbers (x, y, z, and delta) aren't constantly fluctuating, then this would indicate to me that you have a defective device. The same holds true for the gyroscope and orientation measurements. If so, return it for exchange or repair.
Also, you haven't specifically stated if you have turned on automatic screen rotation. You've only said that you have "tried everything", which doesn't really help us help you. From the upper right section of the screen, swipe down to access the quick settings menu. If the center square says Rotation Locked, tap on it once so that it says Auto Rotate. If the home screen still doesn't rotate from portrait to landscape and back again, then you likely have a defective device that should be returned for exchange or repair.
Yes, there is a rotation app that forces screen rotation and lets you customize it's effects on an app by app basis. It was very popular with N7 users before the Jelly Bean 4.2 update because prior to that update, the home screen wouldn't rotate. However, if you have a defective device based upon the above tests, then installing this app seems pointless to me unless you have your unit repaired. It's called Ultimate Rotation Control, available as a free 7 day trial.
