Help appreciated

Hello everyone, I am trying to become the owner of a used DINC. I have obtained one from a friend at work, upon attempting to activate the phone Verizon would not and still will not let me activate it for the reason it is tied to his account still (long story billing issues). Well I am posting here because I took the phone home, did successfully root and installed Astro file manager to kind of poke around and see if I could access any file that would let me get around this issue. My question is am I out of luck, or is there any way to modify the system into thinking it can be activated on my account? Or should I just punch my friend for his stupidity?

You are out of luck because the ESN is bad , and until your friend pays his account off you are out of luck i believe,,sorry
