Why not set up an inexpensive GoPhone SmartPhone plan? It's hard to beat the AT&T GoPhone pricing system although it's a bit complicated to figure out and to pay for via the GoPhone payment website. I pay $30/mo ($25 + $5) for lots of voice minutes, unlimited text, and pay for data as needed at a rate of $25/GB (the $5/mo charge is to carry over the data balance so it doesn't expire while adding 50 MB as well). The hard part is finding someone at AT&T to help you get started. One way to do it is to buy a GoPhone at Radio Shack (with the same std size SIM as in the mini) and move the SIM over to the mini. The cheap or free Radio Shack phone is a good backup and "service tester". Don't go to the little not-full-service AT&T shops since they are just a way for those guys to get a commission on a contract plan. They will be of no help on prepaid plans. Prepaid plans don't use the LTE data speed but the mini can't use that anyway. Just thought of another data issue with the mini unlocked: there are two models i8190 and i8190L. The L is very important in the US for 3G service since it means it uses the same frequencies as AT&T in the US. (It actually stands for Latin America since the phone was never intended for use here.) When setting up your phone for use with the GoPhone account you may have to copy some settings from the Radio Shack phone to the mini or just Google "Android GoPhone settings".
