help building a custom ROM myself

I have been researching a lot about ROOT and custom ROMs over the last year. I am interested in furthering my knowledge in building and improving my own custom ROM (I don't have one yet // just want to start building one).

Does anyone have any suggestions to where I can get the most reliable information I need to research and learn more on this process? I would like to start the the basics first. I have read a bit of the threads in different forums. I just wanted some suggestions for the BEST place to get started.

Start here. But instead of using inferiorhumanorgans I would use one of your dev's githubs to repo init. Good luck!
