HELP!! Deleted photos from son's S6

I setup Google Photos so it syncs and uploads photos to the cloud. Apparently I didn't wait for everything to sync to the cloud. I looked at the Google Photos cloud and thought they were there so I went to the Gallery like I do on my Note 5, and deleted the 1400 photos. Went back to the Google Photos cloud and only saw three photos. Son is upset. Is there a way to review? Brand new photos he has had for one day.

1. Deleting from the phone deletes from the cloud.

2. Use DiskDigger undelete (root). The free version does photos. (The phone has to be rooted to undelete files.)
