I've tried everything from taking off the battery to going into recovery mode but the volume buttons don't work to scroll down. I've already done a soft factory reset with the phone on but it still stays safe mode on the lower left hand corner of the screen. Please help guys. Thanks

Thats strange... I had a few safe mode boots before when I had my Epic... Normally a reboot always resolved the problem.

If the factory reset, reboot and battery removal hasn't done anything you may want to take a trip to your local Sprint store...

BTW, have you pulled your SDCARD and tried booting up and see if that changes things? Sometimes a faulty SDCARD can cause strange things to happen....

yes i did and still nothing. So frustrating. The phone still works just has the safe mode on lower left corner. The volume down key doesn't seem to work but the volume up does.

Sounds like your having some sort of hardware problem. Could be software but you said you've done a factory reset.....

Only other option if you willing to try is doing a manual factory reset using Odin. Same tool we use in rooting a device and flashing radios, kernels, ROMs ....

Its up to you but it will allow a complete full wipe and re-installation of the OS to the device and then you can completely rule out software.

[How to] Factory Restore (or Fix a Bricked Phone)

Procedure #1--- Froyo EC05

Once you complete the process you should receive the OTA update to EI22 not too long afterwards. You can choose to update or stay on EC05 either one is official OS and can be taken in for service as is.

Thanks alot for helping me out with this situation. I will use Odin to do a full wipe then i will get back to you. Again, thanks

Tried flashing my samsung galaxy sII epic 4g touch back to stock with odin, it failed and now i'm stuck at the android system recovery menu and i cannot press my home button or menu button to reboot system. It says the following: Deleting Cryption Meta Data
--copying media files....
successfully copied media files.
#manual mode#
--updating application...
successfully updated application...
--Appling multi-CSC...
successfully applied multi-CSC

Stuck in this menu and cannot press my home button, or menu button. Please Help.

That's a bootloop. It's not actually shutting off. You may need to odin back to stock, especially if you have not attempted to root or do anything else with it. If you have, than restore your most recent working nandroid backup, and you should be OK.
