help! android experts, help!

UPDATE: I have done a factory reset and manually restored the settings to their previous condition. Kudos to the app Lookout, which let me restore my numerous contacts with no problem.

REALLY sorry for how long this post is, but I wanted to include as much detail as possible. PLEASE respond with any suggestions :'(

I have an HTC Hero from Telus, unlocked, so I can use my Rogers SIM card. Its on Android 1.5, NOT rooted, NOT hacked, NOTHING done to it besides unlocking. I've been too nervous to try any system shenanigans, and am one of the GSM Hero owners waiting [not-so-]patiently for the legit 2.1 upgrade.

Now to my problem: innocently searching through the Market I saw a neat theme called "iphone 4 skin" or something. I downloaded it, and when I opened it, it said I needed to install "PandaHome". I cliked to download that, an app called "91Pandahome" started downloading. No problems thus far.

I launched panda home, which gave me some sort of new theme on my home screen. Mind you, I've never downloaded any themes at all, and have never owned any Android devices besides this one. What the app seemed to do is strip me of Sense, which I didn't like, because I like Sense a LOT. I then thought "well, already there..." and opened and launched the "iphone 4 skin", which essentially just made my background that stupid wet gray background made famous by the iphone 4.

This is when I thought "meh, I've had enough". I opened settings, and uninstalled both PandaHome and the apple 4 skin from my phone, or so I thought. THIS is when the problems began.

Going back to the homescreen, I still had that stupid iphone 4 theme running, but now the homescreen had icons for apps I had long since downloaded and deleted, such as Dolphin Browser. I pulled the battery, left it out for more than 10 seconds, and turned the phone back on. Now my problems got WORSE.

When the phone turned back on, a pop-up asked if I would like to continue with "Home" or "HTC Sense", with the option to make one of these the default (much like the pop-up that asks you which browser you want to open a link with, if you have more than one internet browser). I clicked "home", not knowing what it was, but curious. Suddenly, back to that aggravating iphone 4 skin theme, again with the long-gone icons. Selecting them made the pop-up "app not found on device" come up. Using ES File Explorer I searched around my phone, trying to delete suspicious files. I found "PandaHome" on my SD card and deleted it, but found nothing else that was labeled "Home" or that looked suspicious. Opening up my "settings" to manage my applications, I found an app called "home", and cleared its data (hoping it was a native app that had been tampered with by the PandaHome or whatever, and that clearing it would fix my problem), but it did not give me the option to uninstall it.

When I clicked the home key, again the pop-up about choosing to launch "home" or "htc sense". I clicked sense this time, and it started loading, and then another popup: "HTC Sense, FORCE CLOSE". again, force close. I pulled the battery, turned the phone back on... this time, when the pop-up appeared, I hit "make default" before clicking "HTC Sense". Apparently, BIG MISTAKE: force close again.

Pulled battery AGAIN, turned it back on.............. And now its stuck in launch mode. All that flashes across my blackened screen is the silver HTC emblem. No matter what buttons, or combinations of buttons, I press, the same thing. The backlight turns off, it vibrates when I text myself using my friend's phone, but still, black screen with HTC flashing across it, which it's only supposed to do when it's turning off.

PLEASE, please PLEASE help me.

Looks like your only solution would be a hard reset.
In the future, no themes are compatible with sense. If you want to try different home replacements, launcher pro is good, when you want to go back, go into settings, applications, whatever your home replacement is, press clear defaults and force stop.

I was sincerely hoping I wouldn't have to do a hard reset, not necessarily because of my contacts or pictures (I have them all backed up using the Lookout app), but I also had ShapeWriter from when it was in Beta, and its since been removed from the market :(. Hopefully I can find that email from Swype, so at least I'll be able to redownload that...

You could always just try to locate the apk for the shapewriter app off of the market (xda maybe), put it on your sd card and use a file manager to install it. I don't believe that requires root access.

UPDATE: I have done a master reset, and after much fiddling and downloading, have pretty much returned the phone to its previous condition. Thanks for your advice @rufflez and @ROFLsplash. Being my first post, I'm glad to see the community here is helpful and friendly.
