HELP! HTC One m8 Rebooting Every Minute!

First off, I am rooted.
Second, this problem has happened to those without rooted phones:

So my phone died.
I plugged it in, and decided to turn it on. I do, and it said the charger I was using was slow. "Ok whatever, at least its still charging." I said. Needless to say the phone turned itself off in a minute, cause I guess it was draining faster than it was charging. But then without me touching it or anything it turned back on, then back off, then back on. I thought this would fix itself when i just turned the phone off, and I just let it charge. Nope. In the morning my phone was so hot, it must have been doing it all night. Sometimes I could see the twrp recovery menu flash behind the charging battery of the turned off phone, but I couldn't touch it. While it's on every minute or so, I have tried rebooting, turning on fastboot, rebooting from twrp, turning the phone off and on, and nothing is fixing it. I have gotten it to stop turning on when its off, but it still reboots when its on. I have plugged it into the HTC charger, and the problem persists.

As soon as it's booted up, go into Settings > Apps > Super SU, then force stop and disable. There's some problem with Super SU causing this issue on some rooted HTC Ones.

So is Super SU habitually problematic for HTC One M8s? The damn thing won't install the binaries so I just gave up on trying to root it. Honestly I wish all phones came rooted with unlocked bootloaders, it would make life so much easier.

I was going out of my mind, this was happening to me for about 2 hours until I found this thread. Who knew an app could cause so much hell!

Does this mean I can never re-enable SuperSU? I think I'm in way over my head with rooting this phone so I might try and reinstall the stock OS.

I wish there was a "Send hug" button.... I was close to launching my phone out of the window.

I think it has to do something with HTC restoring its system files automatically somehow. Sounds strange, but this is happening:
My M8 is rooted and I have the SD-card-writing fix installed as well. I used to delete the AndroidEmoji-htc.ttf from the System/Fonts folder with RootBrowser because I hate the HTC emojis. But for some reason the file keeps reappearing after each restart, or even after some days without restart. Then I need to delete it again... have no clue why this is happening.

So one evening my phone started to reboot itself after a minute, just like you described your case above. I found out it was because HTC somehow deleted or uninstalled the SU binaries but left the SU-app there. So killing the SU-app helped, but the REAL SOLUTION was to flash the SU zip in recovery mode again. Since then SU and root functions are working again, but I fear this will happen again some day.

Any idea why the system files keep restoring automatically and how to stop it?

I experienced everything you guys described and then had to disable SuperSU. I then went to root check to see if I was still rooted upon enabling SuperSU again but it said I wasn't. This after going thru the process using the unlckr toolkit. Shockingly the phone didn't reboot although I enabled supersu again. I don't want to give up on rooting.... How exactly do I flash to su?

Have you flashed a custom recovery? After unlocking the bootloader, the first thing you do is flash the latest TWRP(which is what I prefer and always make sure it's the latest. TWRP is on 2.7.1 I believe. So if you don't have THAT version, download it now). Then you need to reboot into recovery and press reboot»system. It will ask you if you want to install super su and root. Slide to install. Then your phone reboots and you have to update the app through the play store. Now with the problem you guys have, I would suggest that you/ fastboot flash recovery twrp.zip (twrp.zip being what ever you have named your custom recovery). Then / fastboot erase cache always do the erase cache after flashing a recovery or a firmware or anything that has to do with system partitions! Then start the process explained earlier.

After some good advice from another thread I found the problem and the solution. I was S-On. Don't know how I Managed to root and install SD-card-fix with S-On but I did. Anyway, I made S-off and since then I have no problems with SU and rebooting. Even the HTC emoji file has disappeared permanently. So now everything is perfect and working as it should.

You don't actually need S-Off to make changes to a system file. Root is all you needed to flash the sd card fix zip. Glad you got your phone working!
