HELP - I want to use an old droid eris for wifi only

My husband just transferred our VZN plan from a three-year-old eris droid to an iPhone. We were told by VZN sales guy that we can still use the droid for wifi only. Anyone know how? Have not restored factory settings to the old droid.

I would just put the Eris into Airplane Mode and then turn on the WIFI.

you hold down the power button like you would to shut the phone off and then select Airplane Mode.
