HELP! I'm fairly illiterate,and my Nexus has just been given to me for me birthday

and I can't do anything to make it work!
It goes to wifi, I put in the hub I have,and it comes up with a BT openzone site = which it says it can"t connect to...I have been round this endlessly. The manual sez it opens with instructions on set-up - but not so with mine!:'(
