Dear Note users,
I got new note5 few days back and worried that spen and my keys will make scratches on my screen. So i went to get a clear coat screen protector. To my dismay s pen dosent fell so smooth as if it was without screen protector. When i use spen on screen protector it dosent glide rather it sticks to it. So i thought it is due to the plastic so i went to buy tempered glass.. Tempered glass is not so hard on spen like ordinary screen protector but still lakes the smoothness of the original screen. Can some one let me know is there any solution for this? will my note lost longer and resist scratches without screen protector?
Thanks...

Hi! i use the Zagg Invisible Shield ultra smooth glass protector. With lifetime replacements (Just did it when I swapped for the white Note 5 from my Note 4) it is a little pricey at $35, but premium quality all around. I actually feel that it is a little slicker than the screens glass..... If that even makes sense!

unfortunately where i live i dont have such brands available. I stay in Oman. As i mentioned i have spent 42$ for clear coat which will prevent from any scratches and life time warranty,. As u mentioned it feels smooth with hand, but when i put my pen it kinda sticky.. Then i spent 13$ and bought tempered glass, it is to an extent okay but not as smooth as the original screen smoothness. Now i have to decide between smoothness and protection. i am planning to use my note 5 without screen protector now. hope these screens are scratch resistant.
Thanks.

I never use a screen protector. Just be careful with the phone. The stylus won't scratch it, but keys might. Never put your phone in the same pocket as keys or anything else.

A screen protector isn't necessarily paramount, but it is good to have. I have one,Tech 21 self-healing, and it works like a charm. The s-pen won't scratch your screen, but keep will. And you don't want your Note 5 screen scratched.

Note in my house!

The screen on the Note5 got scratched within days after I received it, I guess keys in my pocket did it.
I had Verizon send me another new phone.

So now it is wearing the Zagg Tempered glass.

Zagg is guaranteed for life.

Much happy now and the Spen may not be as smooth on the Zagg glass as naked but not worth the risk.

AGAIN NOT WORTH THE RISK

I had the same problem with the Skinomi Matteskin screen protetor, I switched the white nib with the grey spare one that came with my white note 5.

To me regular screen protectors do hinder the s-pen more than the tempered glass but I have yet to find a glass protector that doesn't have the halo effect! Best buy put 5 glass protectors on my phone with the same results! Each time I got it replaced the next person would say that the last did it wrong. Then the next person will say the same of the person accusing the last one of doing it wrong smh

Not required but a decent idea. It still amazes me that people think it's ok to throw your keys in a pocket with your phone

get the Zagg tempered glass screen protector from Verizon. It's different than the Zagg one from Best Buy.

I've had 100% success rate with it. Put it on all four of my Galaxy Note 5 phones and zero halo. (except the top edge of one, but that was my bad)

Theres no reason not to use one. Sometimes on sale, you can get it as cheap as $0.99. You barely notice it, it doesn't affect the screen clarity or the s-pen, and the benefits its huge.

You dont have to worry about keys as it is lower on the Mohs scale than your screen. Although you can place an exact number on it, gorilla glass is about a 6.5-7. Your biggest fear is small particles of sand that managers to get into your pockets. That will scratch the hell out of your screen.

Also keep in mind, Gorilla glass 4 scratches easier than gorilla glass 3. The benefit of 4 is its ability to withstand drops at the price of scratch resistance. Its the reason the Gear S2 uses gorilla glass 3 instead because they're not planning on having you drop a watch that is strapped around your wrist.

Glass can generally shatter or crack if too much pressure is placed at a point or if it bends too much. Tempered glass aids in preventing both of those and cracking the glass instead as it takes the force and impact and then disperses it.

You also have to keep in mind, the tiniest scratch on your screen increases the odds of the glass cracking significantly.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uugUZPlebqE

Just the tiniest surface scratch creates stress concentrators and decrease its shatter resilience significantly in the event that you actually drop it one day. The video really just shows why gorilla glass is better than regular glass but the point to take from it is even a scratched gorilla glass lowers around 17% durability. Why take chances? Tempered glass is probably the cheapest form of insurance you can get. I got my Skinomi tempered glass for $0.99 when it was on sale with lifetime warranty.

I had the verizon zagg glass one first. Even tho they only allow one exchange they exchanged it 5 times. Each time with the same results. One was even from a different VZW store. They finally gave me a refund after calling CS.

I went through the same issues with Best buy until I just gave up and they refunded my money on a gift card.
