Help me decide to ditch Jailbroken Iphone 3gs for Inspire 4G

This is more of a advanced question concerning to keep the jailbroken Iphone 3GS or get the HTC Inspire 4g.

3G speeds in my area have drastically increased in Chattanooga, TN. My built in July 2009 Iphone 3GS now gets 2.86 Mbps download speeds. Which is amazing. I know the hardware specs on both phones. Reason the Iphone4 is not in debate is right now with a new contract the HTC Inspire is free. Iphone4 is still $200. But a new 4G phone on AT&T being free also makes me skeptical though. I've watched speed tests and reviews, etc, everything on HTC Inspire. So I still haven't decided.

So you guys chime in on download speeds your recieving. I'm not anti driod or favor any other phone. But my almost 3GS in my area still destroys alot of phones. One of my friends came by a few months back with a EVO 4G hollaring this and that. But we both did a speed test opening a website and my 3gs won, lol. He was like is that a Iphone 4. I'm like no dude, its a 3gs from 2009.
Given he was on a different service, and service means everything when comparing phones.

Also to add. WiFi tests don't mean much to me because I'm not on wifi ever and only use 3G service.

The last part of my question is phone modifying, theming, etc, etc.

What are my limitations on the HTC Inspire?

Many of the don't know guys who don't own or know how to modify a iphone don't realize. Once a iphone owner goes to a jailbreak route that maybe takes 2-3 minutes total and downloads whatever they want from Cydia (The jailbreakers appstore) there are absolutely no limitations to the iphone. So thats what worries me going to an android phone. Lets say I want my home button to now open my camera app I can do that. Or I don't like the look of my homescreen date and clock. I have 25 other choices to modify that within a few seconds without plugging my phone up to anything.

Are Android phones capable of being up to date a year or even 2 years later with updates like my Iphone 3GS is capable of. The same IOS thats on the Iphone4 is on the 3GS.

I have been watching netflix movies for about 1 year on my phone through composite cables on my tv. Last I've heard there isn't netflix ready apps available right now

With that being said. Yall guys chime in for me. With whats the right phone for me and what my needs/desires are?

A phone capable of being up to date with updates 1 year to 2 years later?
No limitations at all with what my brain can think of to do on my phone?
Netflix?
Download speeds?

Thanks guys
Josh

The best thing to do is try the Inspire out for yourself using AT&T's 30 day trial period. I was using a jailbroken iPhone 4 up until yesterday when I decided to give Android a try. I ended up going with the HTC Inspire and I still haven't been able to tear myself away from it. I think you are going to see the same thing that I did, which is that the Inspire will have just about everything you could want right out of the box, as apposed to the iPhone that needs to be jailbroken in order to customize it.... I can honestly say I don't see why iPhone users are saying that Android OS is so difficult. The Inspire is one of the easiest phones I have used along with my iPhones..... The only con I have found is the decreased battery life compared to my iPhone 4, but I knew this going in, so it isn't that big of a deal. Today I got 12 hours out of a charge with heavy usage on my Inspire, where the jailbroken iPhone 4 would have given me 16-18 hours. I haven't run any speed tests on the Inspire yet, however, I can tell you from using the Internet for hours that it is equally as fast as my iPhone 4 in my area.

I would wait until June-July and see what the iPhone 4S/5 has to offer, then compare that with the any newly released Android phones then, which I'm sure there will be.

As for download speeds, I haven't seen a difference between my iPhone 4 and the Inspire and probably won't until ATT gets its act together with upgrading their entire network and enhancing backhaul.

Can't comment on customization because I haven't had a chance to root it and flash any custom roms yet, but stock for stock I would say iOS beats out Android.

How so? I also have an iPhone 4 and had to jailbreak it just to get a lot of the features that come out of the box on the Inspire. Try getting a weather widget, or any widget on any iOS device without jailbreaking, and I think you'll find that you can't, unfortunately.

I just dumped the iPhone 4, for the Inspire. To customize iPhone, have to jailbreak. The Inspire running stock, has almost no ends to customize. With Inspire stock you can change background, add widgets for almost anything, download and install ringers, text sounds, notification sounds, all on the phone. I've had all 4 iPhones, and jailbroke them all. I got the Inspire a week ago, and can't put it down. I'll never go back to iPhone!!!

I agree. I have had all the iPhones starting from iPhone 2g and up from the day they came out. I am finally free from the iTunes crap. If I want to load a song or video on the phone from ANY COMPUTER without loosing all the previously added songs or videos there is no problem.

For me the only thing that I notice better on the iPhone 4 is video and camera. Inspire is not bad at all but I think the iPhone 4 has the nicest photo and video.

And the inspire battery life is not as good to me. But I keep a charger at work and in my car. Don't get me wrong during normal use I can get a full day out of it. I just always like to have a nice charge on the phone.

And yes there is no netflix app yet as from what I read that they are working on it. There are other apps you can use to watch video on the thing. Justin.tv,Orb,Play on ect. I really don't miss anything about the iPhone at this point. I will never go back. I just got tired of the same old thing over and over for YEARS. I like the fact if I want to really run an app in the background I can without the crappy push notifications.

On iPhone if you get 2,3 or 4 text messages that you did not happen to see. On your screen it will just show one of them. You have to go into MMS and see what you missed. On android just slide down the notification bar and you can see what you missed.

Everything I used my iPhones for I am doing and then some on the Inspire and then some. Go in your AT&T store and play with one if you don't want to purchase one.

My wife has my iPhone4 and both my kids have iPhone 3gs. After having the Inspire since launch day and I try to use the iPhone it seems that the screen is SO SMALL.

And to load some apps that are not on the market place you don't need to root the phone. Just install Sideload Wonder Machine on your computer.

i switched from a jb 3gs and love my inspire compard to it,
you get know itunes, i hate itunes with a passion.
the DL speeds are the same between different phones, my area is not backhauled though.
you basically get out of the box what it takes to do with the jailbreak.
the ipones OS is simplier, but you an do more with the andriod platform.

My fault, I should have been more clear, I meant overall IMO, stock for stock iOS beats out Android, but you're probably right about Android being more customizable stock.

the only problem with waiting is that there will always be something new and improved coming down the line. we would all still be using razrs if we did that. in my opinion the iphone is a great phone, its just not for me anymore. android does everything i want it to do right out of the box. no need to jailbreak or anything. yes you can root and get custom themes and roms and such, but honestly i havent found a reason yet to do that with my inspire. rooting itself is much more difficult on certain android devices as well. i say as others have, go for it, use it for 30 days and if you dont like it then really nothing lost.

Let's not forget the new iPhone will most likely be $200 minimum, so if cost is a concern, don't bother waiting for it. I was waiting for a 4G iPhone to come out until AT&T offered me the Inspire for $50. Enough said.

As far as speeds, I've done quite a few tests with the Speedtest.net app and have gotten dl speeds between 1.7 meg and 3.2 meg, albeit with varying signal strength.

Okay, thanks. I get what what you are say now.

The major advantage I found is no more ITUNES.. lord I hate Itunes.. I really liked it when it first came out.. but then they Nazified it. And I can't tell you how many songs I have lost or apps due to switching computers. Its just dumb.. I love how steve "Blow"Jobs crowned the IPAD2 as the end of the PC when you have to use a damn computer just to set it up.. F'N ******ed. And the way they treat the folks that jailbreak or hack their products.. Same with Sony.. they are so worried about bootleg media they have spent countless dollars prosecuting hackers and developing ways to make the machines hack proof.. They could hire the hackers as consultants. But look at what microsoft and android .. microsoft just years back got in trouble for monopolizing... they actually released the code for the kinect cause they know that they havent hired the smarted and brightest minds.. that is impossible... Now really innovative ways to use the kinect camera are being developed by supernerds that love to reverse engineer and modify. And you don't see Google going nuts on folks modifying Android. Anyhow the only thing better about the iphone4 is that it has a higher resolution screen, front camera. battery life. the inspire is soooo much faster
ps just noticed after posting that ******ed is a censored word.. Ill do like the blackeye peas and change it to "started"
