I want to replace my iPhone SE and go back to Android, and I don’t need an expensive $500+ phone. I looked on Amazon and found these:

Moto G5 Plus
Alcatel Idol 5S
ZTE Blade V8 Pro
Nokia 6

All are within the same price range and have similar specs.

Which would you choose? What are the pros and cons of each phone?

Though I have not used either of these, I would recommend the Moto G5 or the Nokia 6. Moto has come leaps and bounds and I'd probably recommend that over Nokia. I'd do some video research on YouTube to see which phone you'd like best!

Do consider Honor 8 from Huawei or even Honor 6X.

And you might want to keep an eye out, sometimes a replacement device for someone under warranty may pop up on eBay or Swappa in your budget range and you might be able to get a S7 for about the same price.
Good luck.

LOOL I own an Honor 8 and can't believe I didn't mention that as an option! *smacks head*

Newegg frequently has good deals on the Honor 8, as well.

I have the Moto G5 plus and it's the best!
PROS:
  • Good battery life
  • Excelent fingerprint scanner
  • Fast

CONS:
  • Camera isn't amazing

The newly announce Moto X4 on Android One with Project Fi might also turn out to be a good choice.
Good luck.

If you use a GSM carrier (AT&T or T Mobile) the Nokia is a good option especially if the monthly security patches are important to you. The G5 Plus is a nice device for the money. I used one for a bit before I bought my S8. But Motorola's update policy is just plain awful.

I picked up a Sony XA1 Ultra from BB for 350 + tax a few weeks ago. It's very nice for under 400

If you get the G5 Plus get the 64GB/4GB version. It's worth the extra money for the 4GB of RAM.

Moto G5 plus amazing. Great build quality and running stock android. Also has moto gestures. You'll think you have a $400 phone in your hand as far as build is concerned.

Or go for the brand new G5S plus. Same internals, bigger screen, dual camera and metallic unibody. I'm very happy with mine. :)

I heard the dual camera is kind of laggy on the G5S Plus.
Camera is ok for normal use and it can take some pretty decent photos, but definitely slow when trying dual camera tricks like 'depth'. It can take a few seconds to process the image and let you edit it.

I guess (hope) we'll get some updates for the camera app to make it faster.

So would it be better to save money and get the standard Moto G5 Plus? I know it isn’t true metal unibody but is the phone still durable and solid feeling?

Could be. My wife's got the G5 plus and it's an excellent phone. Same performance, slightly better battery life and a bit smaller.

I prefer the 5.5" screen (huge if you use the one button nav) and the metallic finishing, but there's not much difference, really.

You can get a lg g6 in good condition for under $300 on Swappa right now
