Bought an HTC One of Craigslist.

The guy said it was unlocked. Was originally a bell phone I think? I am on Fido....it works fine.

Anyways I looked in my "other" folder and there is a whopping 19gb eaten up by files I cannot find.
The phone had to have been previously rooted as there was a SU app and some old EMPTY folders called clockwork etc....

I downloaded a rootchecker that j had read to do via Google.

Checked for root status and it stated I wasn't.

Did the reboot in recovery mode that I youtubed, and it stated unlocked but tampered??

I cannot uninstall the SU app.

I JUST want that 19gb shrunk back to 7-10gb it's supposed to be at.

I have nothing on the phone as j type this, except preinstalled apps.

I use File Explorer to search, Nd can't find anything.

Help, on how to recoup some space?

Sorry I have NO clue on what to do in the rooting "lingo"

So apologies in advance.

Welcome to Android Central :)
He might have made a backup with his custom recovery, maybe that's why it's not showing up. Anyway, I'd recommend flashing stock firmware or factory resetting to erase any files the phone has but since you don't know how to root/flash the latter would be far easier :)

I did a factory reset...everything is still there.

And the "other" actually increased in size?

Prob due to me downloading a cpl apps.

But still...19gb is a bit extreme.

However I noticed in EX that there is a triplicate file all with the same files in it?

Could this be my problem?

Emulated, SDcard0, and one other.

I don't want to touch anything, as I have NO clue.

Screenshot would be helpful :)
Strange, factory reset should have deleted everything completely. Have you tried contacting the seller to ask about it?

You can flash it if it's already saved in the internal storage but I don't think you can download the stock ROM directly on to your phone :\

No I can't. :(. Won't let me see what's in it.

I know...I'm very frustrated.

I wish I knew more about flashing etc...

I don't trust watching YouTube, and the "how to" guides are like reading Latin to me.
Lmao

I know :\ Some videos skip over a bunch of steps because they assume you know how to do it. Got lucky and found one video on how to it step by step when I rooted mine
Nothing wrong with YT though, if you find a good tutorial give it a try and you can always ask here if you want to check if the steps are correct :)
Try to get in contact with the guy who sold it to you, he might have re-partitioned the phone's storage so certain files don't get deleted in a factory reset, can't help you there if he did

you could maybe try an app called Clean Master. I use it a lot and its pretty helpful (tho I am rooted) I dont think Clean Master requires root for most tasks. Can't harm trying it out tho :)
