Help please - unable to start camera

[Android Central Question]

I keep getting the message "Unable to start the camera" on my HTC U11 (Android 8.0.0). I have tried installing other camera apps but get the message "Failed to open camera. Camera may be in use by another application." I have completed a factory reset but still the same symptoms occur.

Any assistance gratefully received.

Yes but when you factory reset are you installing all of the same apps? You are likely re-installing the same problem app. You could start the phone in safe mode and then try to open the camera. If it opens OK then it is most likely an app causing you this issue. You could go into permissions and try disabling access to your camera for all apps and then try to opening it. Again if it opens one of those apps you denied access is tying up your camera.

As above, reset without the restore. Your just recycling the problem.
