My Optimus S came with a Micro-SD adapter that I put my Micro-SD card into a regular SD card to put in my SD card on my PC. Then I put the Gingerbreak.APK file onto my phone, downloaded Astro File Manager from the Market, and ran Gingerbreak. Took a minute or two but no real problems.

Just put the APK right onto your SD card.
