I have a Motorola G Pure. It was captured by the Uber website. The only escape was to do a hard reset which I did. Now it won't allow me to set the phone up anew. The problem is that it knows what my Google email address is and I don't because I don't use Google. It will not allow me to complete setup without it. I've tried to recover the email address to no avail. Is there anything I can do to use my phone again. If not, just let me know and I will buy a new one. Thanks for any help.

Unfortunately this sounds like the phone is protected (FRP) and, since this is a security measure, the only way to gain access and successfully reset the phone is to provide the right credentials to the Google account that set it up.

I don't understand how it was captured by Uber website, but sounds like your phone is compromised and your emails , get in touch with if your using Google email because getting a new phone you won't be able to use those accounts

That's a bit puzzling, because when you first set up your phone, you must have added a Google account, right? It doesn't necessarily have to be a Gmail address -- just any email address associated with your Google account.

I don't use google. Yes I had to set up a google email in the beginning. And now that I have a phone with a hard reset I can't set it up without knowing the email address I have never used. I wouldn't have guessed that it would be needed. So a hard reset isn't really that hard. I'll assume the phone is now junk and replace it. It won't be a motorola. Thanks for trying.

Ok -- just be aware that this is how any Android device works, not just Moto. Make sure you remember the Google account and its associated password you use to set up your next phone to avoid this kind of issue again.

Thanks. Now I know.

Well I had a fun time getting a new phone. My provider which was Tello spent 20 minutes on the phone asking questions to sell me a new phone. When she got to wanting the SIM card number I told her to send me a new one. She wanted the number anyway. I closed the account. Mint Mobile couldn't sell me a phone because they had a problem at their end with their system. She asked me to order it online. The website had the same problem. I couldn't buy a new phone from them and moved on.

I finally had success with a company callled Twigby. Not only do they have cheap service like Tello but they sold me a new phone and didn't require me to have or use a Google account. I used one of my normal email addresses and I have a new Samsung 5G phone on the way. It took almost 12 hours to solve my problem. Thanks for the responses. This industry could do things better.

Enjoy your new phone. If they sold you a new Samsung, I think you are going to be happy with the switch.
Thanks. I think it will be fine. I'm a very very light cell phone user so I don't need much. I got the 5G only because I thought I should be up to date. I didn't dislike the Motorola phone. It was larger than I prefer but did the job. But since I had to throw it away It made little sense to stay with the same brand. Take care.

One more post. It turns out that the problem I faced is fairly common it is called factory reset protection. There are ways around the problem and, if someone else shows up with the problem I had, just give them [Mod redacted]
