I believe my issue is that the ROM is in the wrong folder (/sdcard/Download/cm-10-20120917-NIGHTLY-maguro.zip) downloaded the ROM from here (CyanogenMod Downloads) and specifically the latest ROM available(cm-10-20120917-NIGHTLY-maguro.zip). I have been following instructions from(How to Install Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on the Verizon Galaxy Nexus) and thought I had it all down but I am pretty sure the ROM .zip is in the wrong place OR the ROM .zip is corrupt. the error is:
"
E: Error in /sdcard/Download/cm-10-20120917-NIGHTLY-maguro.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
"
And the little droid with his chest open w/ the red triangle and exclamation mark.
Nothing I do gets me back to even factory. I can boot into the bootloader then recovery but if I try and just boot up it gets stuck at the black screen with "Google" and the padlock until I pull the battery. Help please!

Wait wait wait. You say you're looking to install a "maguro" ROM, which is the GSM model of the phone. But then you link to a Verizon link. You need to be 100% sure you're installing the proper ROM for your device. Right now it looks like you're trying to install a GSM ROM on a CDMA phone.

Let's not follow that guide because it requires you use the root toolkit, which is a bad idea. All you need to do is boot into your custom recovery, put the ROM on your SDcard, wipe everything and then install the ROM (+ gapps or any other flashes you need). You're already rooted and unlocked I'm assuming, so you don't need that link anymore. The fact that you're getting the Android with an exclamation (the stock recovery), possibly means you're having trouble trying to flash a custom recovery. This is a side effect of using a toolkit, as you have no idea what you've done.

I'd prefer if you did some reading in this thread and learned how to do things properly, that way you'll be able to install your ROM and know how it was done, and not damage your device.

Also, if you really are on the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, I recommend you post in the Verizon Galaxy Nexus forums, as people will be able to help you with that device. The method is the same as the GSM device, but that forum gets much higher traffic than this one, which is for the GSM model.

Andrew you are correct, the ROM is GSM( imadumbass). I am unlocked and rooted but how do I put a new ROM on my phone when my PC won't recognize the phone being plugged in and the phone wont boot up past recovery or the bootloader? Thanks for the timely response.

If you can get into recovery, simply go there and plug into your PC (if you can't get into recovery, boot into fastboot and flash a custom recovery first). Use ADB to push the ROM file to your sdcard folder.

Code:
 adb push your_ROM_name.zip /sdcard/
