I'm having trouble with GladEnable.

I started with an unrooted Atrix on 1.5.7. I downloaded 1.8.3 using the motorola updater. I installed Gingerbreak on the phone and ran it. I think I am rooted now...I'm basing this off that I downloaded the free Titanium Backup from the market to the phone. When I run the backup app, it tells me my system won't allow me to restore settings and that I need to go into settings/applications and tick the "Unknown Sources' box. I don't have that box.

I extracted GladEnable to the C drive of my computer. I connect the phone, have USB debugging on and USB set to None. When I run the gladenable.bat file, it asks if i want to install sideloading, I type in "y" and hit enter. It says Allow superuser request on phone. Then it says Permission denied.

I'm not concerned about tethering so I type "n", then the phone reboots.

Why is the sideloading being denied? Am I typing/not typing something at the right time?

Thanks

Not sure if it will help but on my atrix its settings/applications/development and the box is called something like Allow Mock Locations. I could be wrong as I dont sideload yet but won't hurt to give it a try.

I just tried your suggestion. I enabled the Allow Mock Locations box and ran Glad Enable, but I got the exact same responses as before.

Sounds like you may or may not be rooted, and that you don't have "sideloading" setup. You need to find the sideloading app and install it. The installation will give you (after it's completed) the ability to install apps from unknown sources. That will appear in Settings, under Applications and you need to be sure that the box has a check mark in it. Do you see a Super User app in your app drawer? If you do, you can check and see if it has granted SU permission to any of the apps in your drawer. If it hasn't try running one of the apps that require you to be rooted, in order to work - like Root Explorer, ShootMe or Titanium Backup.

I see the Super User in my app drawer. I've only downloaded free Titanium Backup since I "rooted" the phone. (Again, I thought I was rooted because I was able to download Titanium Backup) Titanium Backup is the only app showing when I open the Super User app. When I tap on Titanium backup, it's status shows "Allow". Also, I can open Titanium Backup. I guess I can use it's basic functions, but I can't freeze anything since it's the free version. So I am assuming it is functioning.

Ok I just downloaded and installed ShootMe. (It nows shows up in the Superuser app along with Titanium Backup) When I open it, this is what it says.. Shootme has been granted Superuser permissions...Trying to start server....Failed starting server. Please check you have "Root" access on your device and enabled access to the lower level graphics.

So am I actually rooted? Can I run Gingerbreak again (I still have it on my phone), or will that cause more problems?
Which sideloading app are you referring too? I was using GladEnabler, without luck.

You can download any root app whether you are rooted or not. Refer to the XDA forum where you got gladenabler to see if someone else has posted the same error you are getting. It sounds to me like you are not rooted. Did you run gingerbreak after you loaded .83?

Yes. My phone was unrooted. I updated with the Motorola Upadater to 1.8.3. After that I installed Gingerbreak to the phone (I used gingerbreak.exe by kennethpenn). I clicked on it and it ran. I thought a black screen showed on it with some wording, but it was so quick I couldn't see what it said. I thought everything went ok since the process did finish.

I've gone ahead and re-ran gingerbreak several times now. The phone has rebooted everytime . A couple times I caught a black box that said Lookout unexpectedly stopped, or maps unexpectedly stopped. Other times I get no black boxes. I deleted Lookout. I cant delete maps, but I deleted the updates to maps. Still getting same results. I deleted the gingerbreak app from the phone and computer and reinstalled them, still same results.

I guess the question now is why can I get gingerbreak to root?

My Atrix is rooted, and the Shootme app gives me the same error, so I haven't used it. I use ScreenShot instead.

The superuser app is just an app. It doesn't mean you can run apps with root level permissions. What the superuser app does is REMEMBER which apps SHOULD run with root level permissions. Make sense? It's not implicit that one does actually have superuser access--although typically it would mean that a rooting operation installed the app.

Anyway, once Gladenable successfully runs, the option is the same for any normal Android device and it's under Settings, Application settings, and a checkbox for "Unknown Sources".

Try this--try side-loading an app. If you don't know where find an apk file, then sign-up for Amazon appstore and you'll be prompted to install an apk. If you don't know how to do this, googling will help.

If you're not rooted, it sounds like you didn't follow the directions well--there's a box that pops up while gingerbreak is running and it prompts you to allow access. A surefire way to fix things would be to follow this process:

Use RSD lite and reflash .8.3, run gingerbreak, gladenable. Here's a thread with links.
