Help- where is the address book/list of contacts on GMail, etc.?

My Gmail address book has email addresses, street addresses and phone numbers. I synced this with the people app on my Nexus 7 by the only thing listed in people is email addresses. I need to be able to access the rest of the information.
To be useful, an address book needs to provide a place to store and look up email, street addresses, phone numbers, facebook and twitter handles, etc.

It should be syncing everything over. Make sure the field at the upper left of the screen says "All contacts" and not "Groups." If you're in the Groups view, it will display email address by default, but if you tap the Maps icon, it will show the street address.

Every bit of information available in G-Contacts on my pc is available on my phone and N7 in People. In the People app, hit Options (3 vertical dots upper right) > Contacts to display > choose Google. In Settings > Accounts > Google > touch gmail account > check what you want synced. Make sure you put a check in Contacts among your choices. Sync contacts and take another look at your People app. Everything entered for contacts should be there.

Thanks for this tip B. Diddy. I agree with all the other comments that this function should be there without having to install an add-0n. The group emailing works just fine with gmail on my pc. I guess I just took it for granted that it would be in the N10 gmail app, too. Wrong!!! I spent over an hour trying to get the group gmail to work. In People Contacts you can add a group, but you can't select the group as an addressee for emailing?? What???

Update: I bought the app rather than downloading the free version. It was $1.58. I hate ads. It works okay to enter the addresses within the group, but it inserts "Sent by Gmail Group Share." in the subject line. I send a query about this to the producer and am waiting for a reply. If I can just delete the insert and put in my own subject, that would be okay.

I have to reply to this though it's a bit late I know. I really do sympathize with olgeezer44 because I too have just sent feedback to Gmail about how stupid it is that there is no access to the full address book list when writing a fresh email using the Android Gmail app. It's all very well to create a synch list in People, but if you are already starting an email in Gmail and you need access to your People List, you can't open it without closing the Gmail you were starting. Clearly a really stupid shot-in-the-foot design by the person creating Gmail app that I use on my Nexus 7. Obviously we have all got to go to people first and choose the recipient there and then let it open Gmail fresh. I couldn't see a way to choose several when doing a CC to several people.

So really then Gmail on Android is a very cut down affair with little more usability than sending an email via the SMS Phone Text system.
I'm really cross about the time I've wasted looking for a solution to the insoluble. Thank you Nexus and Google for the frustration!

I know it's not what your looking for but.
When addressing an email once you start entering the letters of their name, a list pops up with all the suggestions.

I address group emails like this all the time and it takes just a few seconds to add a list of recipients to the email.

Well I did know that but when you have over 80 addresses in your contacts list it's impossible to remember what the user names all begin with.
So the facility is of limited use. I mean, if you have some people who have made up strange or odd user names they all get mixed up with emails that begin help@ or sales@, or support@ and such emails that are filed under the person's name but the user name they use is something like gizzy34_bong@ then you can't hope to pick out the right starting combination of letters to make the Gmail auto type the person you want to fetch. So I'm sorry but Gmail has been very remiss in not making it available to us when for goodness sake it belongs to us, not to them. OK so it's not Google it's the Android version of the Gmail app, but that's still Google's fault for not insisting that the app was fully functional instead of cut down in a really silly way.
There is no excuse other than feeble ones.

That's true if you only have an email address in your contacts.
If you have the persons name also you just start typing their first or last name and the selection box shows up.

My wife has over 2000 contacts from around the world and this works quickly.

Granted when you have over 100 Bills or Johns it helps to know the last name :-)

It's even easier to open Gmail, then click on Gmail in the upper left corner and choose 'Contacts'.

Good evening,
well I have searched high and low and can't seem to find anykind of address book on my new Nexus 7.
I was successfull in importing my contacts (converted them via Gmail from CSV to Vcards) and can see them for instance if I try and type and email and start typing the name.
Can also see them listed in first name order in the People app. But where can I find an actual address book. Many times you want to send out an invitation for example and just scroll your contacts to remind you to send to everyone.
I can see "contacts" in GMail on my PC, but can't find it anywhere on the Nexus on either Gmail (or the yellow email icon, where I have my ATT account).
Thanks in advance for your help, Lydia, Nexus Newbie;)

The same problem here with Samsung Galaxy Core 2! It seems that you can't see address book (contacts) directly in Gmail app. It is really unbelievable!?!?!?

Welcome to Android Central! The Gmail app can communicate with your People app--when you start typing in a contact in the "To:" field, it will start giving you suggestions from your contacts in People. If you need to actually look through your People app, you can tap Home, then open People. It's a simple matter to switch back to your Gmail app by tapping the Recent Apps button, and tapping Gmail again. If you were composing an email, it should still be there. Putting your entire People app inside the Gmail app would make the Gmail app unnecessarily larger.
