I am new to the forum and soon to be new to Android (Thunderbolt) and am looking for a little advice. I did some searching but I couldn't find an explanation that exactly matched my particular situation or question that I have in mind. I'd appreciate any and all help that can be provided. Thanks a lot in advance.

I am trying to learn the quickest and most efficient way to sync my contacts from my iPhone to my Android Phone. I have a gmail account and thus, a google account. I know how to sync my iPhone contacts from iTunes to my gmail account (but have not done this).

THE PROBLEM: The contacts I have on my iPhone are the contacts that I want to swap over to my new Android Phone. However, i have a few hundred more contacts in my gmail account that I DO NOT wish to sync to my new Android Phone.

I guess I could sync my iPhone contacts using iTunes to a NEW, separate, clean gmail account, then upload to android, and thus have only the iPhone contacts that I want to sync appear on the new Android phone.

However, if I do this, can I then switch back to my primary, preferred gmail account, from which I can then continue to receive my e-mails without syncing all the extra contacts i have in THAT account to the Android Phone?

WHAT I AM ATTEMPTING TO ACCOMPLISH: I don't want to have to sync or merge my iPhone contacts with my existing gmail account and then have to later delete hundreds of contacts off of the android phone after I have synced the Android Phone to my primary gmail account.

Any suggestions, other methods, etc.? Have I missed something simple?

Thanks again. I apologize if I have missed this explained elsewhere i the forums.

In Gmail, there should be options to sync the entire contact lists or specific groups only. See if you can create a group labeled mobile contacts and set that group to sync (make sure to disable all other contacts).

Ah ha..Good Idea. I'll try that. Thanks.

If anyone else has done this and was successful please let me know. Also, if you have other options, I'd like to hear them as well.

Thanks again.

I tried using Itunes to sync my iPhone Contacts to a "new group" within Google Contacts. Itunes would not allow this to be performed as the "selected groups" options is greyed out, thus not allowing me to sync to Google Contacts.

However, I exported my contacts to Outlook, created a CSV file, and imported the CSV file into a "Mobile Contacts" group that I created in Google Contacts within my gmail account.

First Part. Done! However!!!

Now....Here's the million dollar question, as I have never had an android phone. When setting up my phone, I assume it asks for my gmail account name and password. Will it give me the option to sync a specific contact "Group" OR will the android OS just dump the entire Google contacts list into my phone without asking me any questions, like which contact group I want, etc?

Thanks a lot. Plan on getting a new phone tomorrow. I don't know why I can't find an answer to this. I assume a lot of people have run into this same dilemma previously.
