2 main reasons for a low memory warning:

1. Too many apps installed. Phones have a limited amount of application memory to install apps, which varies with each phone. Some have upwards of 3 GB, which is a lot, while cheaper phones have as little as 256 MB, which really limits how many apps you can have installed at any time. If you have a lot of apps installed, try uninstalling some that you never or hardly use.
You can also move some apps to the phone's internal storage memory, which is different from the application memory. Go to Settings/Apps, select an app, and see if there is a option that says something like "Move to Internal Memory." Doing this will move a big chunk of that app to the internal memory, freeing up some application memory.

2. Lots of stored text messages, especially if they have pictures or videos attached. If you don't regularly delete your texts, this can really build up and decrease storage memory. Go to to your text messages and delete all of your threads.

I've deleted all my messages I've got the apps that I can
move to my SD card I haven't downloaded that many apps this is what my storage on my phone is showing.. SD card total space 7.39GB available space is 7.28GB internal user storage space is 17.96MB available space 17.88MB and internal storage available space 42.33MB hope this helps out and in my Yahoo email I have over 2000 emails and my gmail I have 5000 does this have anything to do with my storage?? Thanks for the help

That's a really small amount of user storage space. It's not entirely clear to me if that refers to application storage or something else. It would help if you let us know the exact make and model of your phone, as well as the Android version you're running.

Regarding your Yahoo and Gmail unread emails, are you saying that you have both the Yahoo Mail and Gmail Android apps, and both of those apps are showing hundreds of unread messages? If so, then that may be taking up quite a bit of storage space, although I'm not entirely sure. The email apps might be temporarily storing the emails in the app cache, which could take up a lot of space. Go to Settings/Apps, select Y! Mail, and look at the memory used. If there is a large number after the Cache, then clear it. If there's a large number after Data, then go back to the app and start going through your unread emails, deleting the ones you don't need.

Searching on the web, I figured that you have a Huawei Ascend Y, (aka H866C, which is what your signature says). According to the specs, it has 256 MB of RAM, and 120 MB ROM. The way Android handles memory can be very confusing, which can also make it very confusing to figure out what a phone's specs mean.

The 256 MB of RAM is the memory that your phone uses to keep apps active. The more the RAM, the more apps Android can keep active, and therefore the faster the phone performs. 256 MB is fairly low, but I don't think this is why you're getting the low phone storage alert. I think that is because of the 120 MB of ROM that's listed in the specs, which I believe corresponds to the phone's internal storage. This is not much at all, compared with most midrange phones that have at least 4-8 GB of internal storage. Some of your 120 MB is actually taken up by the system, so the internal storage you actually have available to you appears to be a paltry 42 MB or so. I'm sorry to say that you can't do much with that.

You might be able to move apps to the external SD card, which is the physical SD card you can insert, but this generally can't be done any more with more recent Android versions like ICS and Jellybean. If you have Gingerbread (2.3), it might be possible.

If possible, post a screenshot of your memory usage in the Settings menu. If you're unable to take a screenshot, try just taking a photo of the screen.
