Help with Music App on Lock Screen

Hi All. I have recently got a Nexus 6P. I have moved from iOS so Android is new to me. I've taken the 3 month Google Music trial offer as well as downloading Spotify.

The problem is that when I play any music apps and then lock my phone there is no app showing that allows me to skip, pause etc.

What am missing to allow this to happen.

Cheers

Go to Settings>Sound & notification>When device is locked, and make sure it's set to Show All Notification Content. You can also select App Notifications in the Sound & Notification menu, select Google Play Music, and make sure it isn't individually blocked.

Cheers that's resolved it.

Bit disappointed in function is a single bar in the middle of the screen, I give iOS the win for the lock screen music app there.

Yeah, that's a common complaint. My guess is it was to allow more room for other lockscreen notifications to appear.

I think this may be a by-product of Ambient Display (AD). It's pulling the Notification music controls to the lockscreen, as it would any other notification in AD. Haven't tried it so don't hold me to it, but I believe if you disable AD you will get a full screen music control on the lockscreen, since there would be no AD to supercede it. Of course, you'll lose all AD notifications by doing so.

...adding, if you use something like Tasker you could probably set it up so that launch of music app disables AD and closing music app enables AD.

Thanks for the suggestion. Just disabled AD, no change to the lock screen.

Not a deal breaker having a small music player, just surprised really, I'm only used to iOS that's all.

What's really the difference? You have thumbs up and down, next, back, and play/pause. That's all you really need for a music player on the lock screen.

There is only pause/play and skip forward or back not other options but it is mostly the size of it in relation to screen size, I would have like (only personal preference) to see it bigger but I understand now how Andorid works, in comparison to iOS.

As I said no big issue really just surprised by the difference. I am getting used to Android after 4-5 years on iOS exclusively. So far Android is winning hands down.

If you expand the music notification you get thumbs up/down on the lock screen. There used to be music scrubbing, however that was removed some time in the past.
