Hello everyone I have owned my kindle for a couple days and have been trying unsuccessfully to root it. My kindle is on version 6.2.2 and I using a windows 7, 64 bit laptop. I have tried two different methods of installing the device drivers. Everything seems to be ok (under device manager/android phone I have android adb device).

My problem is when I go to the command prompt I can't make things work. I will type cd c:\kindle adb which brings up C:\kindleadb> at which point I will type adb devices. I get

*daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037*
*daemon started successfully*
list of devices attached

But it never shows my device. I just get the c:\kindleadb> prompt again.

Any suggestions. I have tried a dozen times uninstalling and reinstalling. What am I doing wrong?

I did the root/CM7 thing on the kindle fire yesterday. It was a huge pain in the ass for me because of those ADB drivers so I feel for you. It would look like it was installed correctly but wouldn't really work for me.

For me the SDK install and the Kindle Fire utility install methods didn't work, i still couldn't get the drivers to work how I needed them to.

I used these instructions and they worked for me, so I'll pass them onto you.
How to install Kindle Fire adb USB driver? (Video)

This got working ADB drivers setup for me. After that I was able to go through the Kindle Fire Utility -> root -> flash CM7 without too much issue.

edit: I should also add that I deleted the device/drivers from ctrl panel and did a search for the drivers the KFU installer installs to remove those from my system as well. Essentially cleaning out those drivers, then installing from the instructions worked for me.
