Help with Twitter for Android

Alright guys, I can't seem to find an adequate solution to this anywhere but I know there is because no one else has commented on having this problem. I bet I am overlooking something simple. I just want to sync the Twitter accounts of individuals I already have saved on my phone (via Google contacts.) Whenever I select in Twitter for Android "Sync with Existing Contacts" it ports everyone I follow from Twitter into my contacts. It would not normally be a big deal but it makes my contacts take up wayyyy too much storage space. Anyone have any suggestions? I bet I am overlooking something simple.

what kind of phone do you have?? Because I noticed that each manufacturer with its own skin has their own way of doing it.
