I am in need of assistance. Sorry but I didn't actually see anything out there for this. So, I followed this thread to root my Galaxy S3.

For step 1, number 3 I used "For Both Root and Unlocked Bootloader ***RECOMMENDED*** - Download SuperSU + Unlocked Bootloader to your SD Card". For recovery I used TWRP. Finally, I used VRBMB1 (Jelly Bean 4.1.2).

Just to make a note, during the root process, Step 4 said "Upon exiting your custom recovery to reboot first time, you will be asked if you want to "Disable recovery flash", you MUST select Yes". I was not prompted to do this.

Then, I was ready for some Liquid Smooth...or so I thought. I used the instructions here.

For the actual Liquid Smooth, I used another link because the one provided did not work. It was from here.
For gapps, I used HDPI / MDPI / TINY: gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip ? (Mirror #1) ? Only for Android 4.2.2.

All that kept happening was a constant Samsung screen would flash then disappear. Then I tried the process over again twice, same thing. I was able to restore to my backup but now I can't. I tried the process another time WITHOUT reflashing recovery and since then I get the wonderful message about Software not authorized by VZW.

I also have the counter set at 3.

I would like to get things set back to factory and start from scratch. Can you help me? Right now, I have no phone at all.

At this point did you actually boot into Team win Recovery?
Finally, I used VRBMB1 (Jelly Bean 4.1.2).
Were you already on on VRBMB1 4.1.2 build before you started this process? Also You said "Finally" used VRBMB1 so does that mean you flashed this in odin after you installed recovery or before you tried to install recovery?

Did you use Team win recovery to flash the SuperSU_Bootloader_fixed.zip file?

this file "gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip " is not liquid smooth, this is only the google apps package. if this is what you flashed then you only flashed google apps onto your system which would explain the crashing

im kind of confused on what you mean , you did the process over without reflashing recovery.

Understood.

At this point did you actually boot into Team win Recovery?

When it came time to flash it to root and unlock the bootloader, yes. For the sake of this post, I just told you my choices. The original post I followed had options, I just told you the choices I made. I followed the original post to a TEE.

Were you already on on VRBMB1 4.1.2 build before you started this process? Also You said "Finally" used VRBMB1 so does that mean you flashed this in odin after you installed recovery or before you tried to install recovery?

I was on the latest software update Verizon sent out a few days ago. I was stock, no root to this phone ever. I believe that was 4.1.2. I said Finally because the final step of the post I followed, had me to flash that via odin as a final step. This was after recovery was installed.

Yes.

The instructions I followed to use liquid smooth, had me to flash liquid smooth and also gapps. It was supposed to be some sort of update to gapps.

Im kind of confused on what you mean , you did the process over without reflashing recovery.

I mean that I went through the process here ([GUIDE] Root for Jelly Bean 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 OTA ***UPDATED 3/5*** - xda-developers). While going through that process again, I meant that I skipped step 3. That was actually a mistake, as I skipped step 4 on that thread.

Ok so first big problem, the tutorial you sent me had it linked to the AT&T version of the ROM, which obviously not good.
Here is the proper link to the VZW version of liquidsmooth Goo.im Downloads - Downloading Liquid-JB-v2.1-RC2-d2vzw.zip

Have you tried to do the whole process of getting back into custom recovery? will it not let you?
have you tried to use any of the flash back to stock packages with odin?

I cannot get back into recovery. I get the "unauthorized software" message for Verizon.

I found this which is why I thought to contact you. http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...ystem-software-not-allowed-after-running.html. From here, it looks like the actual solution was found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984436. I am trying the solution in the second link as we speak.

I guess me being able to read could make this process go a lot smoother smh

Its not your fault that site was irresponsible to give VZW instructions and link you to AT&T download.

please let me know how it goes

My phone now says the following:

Model number: SCH-I535
Android Version: 4.1.2
Baseband version: I535VRBMA2
Kernel version:
3.0.31-861013
se.infra@SEP-128 #1
SMP PREEMPT Sat Jan 19 20:14:52 KST
2013
Build number: JZO54K.I535VRBMA2
Hardware version: I535.10

I cannot boot into TWRP recovery, only android System recovery. I do see SuperUser there though. I'm going to do some research and see if these specs seem to be correct.

you need to go back to the original method and start over, once you have twrp working stop and let us know

I decided to go with CWM. I used that with my Fascinate...I'm going back to the basics! Anywho, it's up and I can access it...I'm booted into Recovery now. Now I'm supposed to flash SuperSU_Bootloader_fixed.zip. We're good to go from here?

EDIT:

CWM version is 6.0.2.3 btw

Yeah flash it. then reboot,
then make a nandroid backup

That worked.
I flashed SuperSU_Bootloader_fixed.zip then made a nandroid backup. Then I flashed VRBMB1 (Jelly Bean 4.1.2). I then booted to recovery and flashed the correct version of Liquid Smooth and gapps. I am now prompted to set up everything! Although, I don't get the sense that this will be a touchwiz launcher. I'd prefer touchwiz so now I have to figure out how to get it. Nonetheless, I can now access my phone! Thanks for all of your help!

Do you have any ideas how I can get the 4.2.2 TouchWiz? Or a launcher to download? If not, I totally understand!

Thanks again!

Very welcome

You can't you will have to flash a rom based on touchwiz .
You will have to wait for an official 4.2.2 update and then wait for someone to make a rom of it.

I was also interested in 4.2.1 for my Verizon Galaxy S3. Did some reading about it relative to the S3, and from what I've read there are some problems that people are having that are flashing the leaked builds. Personally, I decided to stay with 4.1.2, and am using CleanROM 6 for the time being. Pretty skinny, easy on battery, good radios, stable, and you can pick your favorite launcher (among other options *smile*) when you configure it during the installation process. I like it. Seems to be stock minus bloat, which is pretty much what I was looking for. I find the stock 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 smooth enough, just bloated with junk I don't use or want. I'm waiting on anything 4.2+ until things get a little better formed over there *smile*. May not be too long, we'll see.
