Just rooted D1 with easy root and downloaded ROM manager and the latest clockwork recovery then tryed to install Bugless Beast v 1.1 (starting slowly or so I thought) checked the box for back up current rom but did not check wipe data or cache. Made the backup and installed new system files but I am stuck in an endless reboot cycle. Starts with the droid logo then the red eye then back to droid logo. Helpt thanks.

Remove the battery to break the loop.

Insert battery.

Turn phone on and hold down the X key on the keyboard.

You can restore your backup from there.

:)

1.hold power and x until recovery mode comes up

2.go to partitions menu

3.format boot, system, data, and cache 3times each (don't format your sd card that could be bad)

4.then hit power button to go back

5.install zip from sd card

6.and choose the file you want to install and it will do the rest

if the file you have doesn't work again try a different one by putting your sd card in your computer and downloading another file to the root of your sd card and follow these steps again

seriously you had to go and be faster than me like that :)

Pfft... mine's simpler, lol. :P

Thanks, needed some calm direction. Restored from back up all is well. Not sure why this happend this was my first custom rom insall and I thought I read somewhere that I did not have to wipe cache and data if you were still using ESE81 build. Will keep at it though no going back now.

yes and no. some roms say they don't require a wipe if you change the rom but it is always recommended to wipe. if you want to make sure you are starting fresh and also trying to avoid any bugs or issues, then i highly recommend wiping. i used to hate it because i would have to reinstall my apps but after getting titanium back up, everything is like butter haha. it as simple as pressing a button to back up and then pressing a button to restore them. ive flashed more roms than i can remember and i always wipe. better safe then sorry

Most ROM developers say that a boot loop is caused by not wiping the data and cache before installing a new ROM

The trick isn't the build, I think, it's the way it's compiled. CM and BB, for example, can use the same build at times, but going between them without a wipe always causes a boot loop for me. Some ROMs just don't play well together.
