i have the samsung transform and i thought with the froyo update that the home screen would go to landscape without me having to slide out my keyboard does anyone know about this?

Yes with mine you have to slide out the keyboard and that is the only way the home screen goes into landscape. I do not know why the update made it so landscape only works when you slide out the keyboard but it is what it is.

you could try a different launcher app, like zeam or adw launcher pro. I use zeam and the screen moves around all the time
