Heresy, Sprint wants to make me give up Verizon, move all my S5s over to them, and cut my payments?

Hmmmm, was watching the Half Time show on the football contest tonight between the Seahawks and the Patriots. I heard one of the teams bungled up a play and lost their chance at winning........ dunno, I quit watching after the half time show.

anyway, Sprint had this really neat advertisement calling Verizon an A S S by displaying a donkey picture in lieu of the words...

Right after that, they said that if I would take in all of my phones, they would give me the same service for 50%, exactly half what I am paying now.

Hmmmmmmm, if the $306.00 monthly bill was my only consideration, I would be sorely tempted to go see the Sprint store. But, before I do.... it's 25 miles to the nearest one to me.... has anyone actually checked into this gimmick?

I'm thinking their "50% rate reduction" will only be good for 3 or 6 months... then what?

I am also not forgetting all of the bad news I have read in the forums about very poor coverage by Sprint.... I live in a very rural area. My closest "metroplex" measures about 10 miles by 10 miles, Tulsa, Oklahoma..... so I am worried that jumping ship might find me in some very muddy water. I h ave stuck with Verizon for over 20 years, and paid a premium for their service.. that is called Hello There anytime I want to call home, regardless of where I am..... never unable to get a signal unless in a very low spot or in the mountains sometimes.

Next problem is, Sprints bands don't entirely match up with Verizon.... right now, even with me being very rural, I can get a nice speed on LTE.... 40 mB in fact. That is 4 times faster than my hard wired land line ADSL internet service.

Fiber you say? what is that, the horses and cattle out here never heard of fiber or cable service for that matter.

Well, I see they put up a web site tonight to match that Half Time advertisement.

I still have to mull this over........... they want me to turn in my phones and choose new ones.........

they don't say a word about reimbursing me for the time lost in trying to configure new phones to work exactly like my perfectly good S5s do.
I don't understand why I would have to turn in my VZW S5, they share most of the same bands, just change the SIM card.

Sprint and vzw are both CDMA companies which mean they both have imei numbers specific to each company. Hence why u gotta turn in your old one regardless of which company u came from.

You watched it twice as long as I did ;) Having grown up in an area with no local team, I've never been much into American football.

I have some colleagues who have Sprint, and they haven't had any problems, BUT I live in a major metropolitan area, so everyone's coverage is pretty much saturated here. Thus, I'm not a good person to go by.

Yeah...saw that commercial. Here in Ohio they are offering us the same thing. I've been with Verizon for over 20 years. I have an excellent cell phone signal. I have called customer service maybe about 4 times in my 20 years with them and have received great service. No problems...no issues and they took care of the issues (billing). I (like all of us) depend on their phone and Verizon provides me with great service. I have no complaints with them. Sometimes switching between carriers can cause more problems then what it is worth.

I just received an advertisement in the mail from Verizon to "double your data". Same price....no catch....no strings attached...no contract extension....no change to your voice plan.....enjoy more data month after month. Right now I have 3GB of data and now they are offering me 6GB of data for the same price that I am paying for the 3GB. Ummmmm....to good to be true? Going to call today and check it out. Maybe us long time loyal customers will finally get a break.

Eh, what Sprint doesn't tell you is that they are also cutting your service in half. Well, that's not technically accurate but my past experiences with Sprint have been terrible. I live in Southern Ohio and it took them forever to get a real 4G LTE network down here. Sprint's speeds are trailing behind Verizon's as they just upgraded the area to their 4G LTEXE service. Forget about having service back home (Southern New Mexico). I was stuck in 2G/EDGE land when I was down there despite Verizon having upgraded it to 4G LTE summer of last year.

Sprint's service was bad in Southern Ohio even after they upgraded to 4G LTE. My iPhone 5 could never pull in anything over 2 bars of 3G service in my office. I work in a 7 story building with 2ft thick reinforced concrete walls so I get it but, after switching it over to a Verizon iPhone 5, I went between full 3G bars and 2-4G bars (it actually went up to 3-4G bars and stayed there before I got rid of my iPhone 5).

To me, Sprint and T-Mobile often focus on gimmicks to pull people in. They'll offer rollover data, really inexpensive services, cutting your bills in half, etc. but the actual service is below that of Verizon and even at&t. I imagine it wouldn't matter much if you lived in a saturated city but even then Verizon offers benefits. Right now I can step outside of my office building and get a solid 65Mbps download speed with a 15ms ping time, not bad for a wireless signal. It steps down to a 30ms ping time and 40Mbps when I'm in my office. Still pretty good for the type of building that I'm in. Sprint would maybe reach 40Mbps on a clear day while I was outside without being near any buildings. They may have upgraded their service in the area since 2012 but it was enough, at the time, for me to switch and stay with Verizon.

Sprint speeds here in Chicago kills vzw now that sprint has more LTE capacity with spark. I've seen my friends triband boost ZTE reach speeds of 60mb down.

Sprint isn't the same company from 2012-13. Neither is T-mobile.
