Hero and WiFi - Driving Me Mad!

Hey there, long time lurker first time poster, so hello!

I'm having a very frustrating issue with my Hero attempting to pick up a Wifi signal to my home network, despite being 2ft from the router! I will try and provide as much information as possible....

Essentially, the issue is that having put in my networks' WEP key and it's 'remembered' the phone will try connecting but will then disconnect with no error then attempt to connect again, then disconnect etc. in a continuous loop. The network SSID is correct and the WEP key is also 100% correct, so it's not a problem of authentication.

I'm currently running the latest VillainRom (Froyd Villain 1.4.1) but the issue happened when my phone was on stock HTC Sense (Android 1.5) and also every subsequent custom ROM I have loaded on my phone so I don't think it's an Android OS problem either.

The only thing I think it could possibly be would be DHCP...as that is what my router is set to at the moment. I have also tried diving my device a static IP (192.168.2.12) and have in-putted the relevant Gateway and Subnet mask but still nothing! So frustrating! My router is a Belkin 54G (Old-Skool!).

I would love to get Wifi running because signal at my house is very poor and I love installing different custom ROMs to test them out...having to install all my apps over and over again on worlds' slowest 3G connection is very tiresome, so WiFi would be amazing.

Any help you can provide would make me a very happy Android-er!

I am not a techie person. But. I can't connect to my wifi as is. I have a Belkin +N router that sends an b, G, and N signal. I could never get it to connect. After much research and going to the local tech dept, supposedly the Hero does not connect to N+ routers. Also, I needed to set up my router to only transmit a g signal. Once I tweaked my router to g, it connected. No problem. Sorry. I am not sure if this helped any.

yeah, its a known issue. I have a n router and it connects (not dual band), but as soon as i leave the room it was connected to, poof. I have a g router somewhere else in the house that connects better to it. 3G is fine in my house so I just use that, but if you needed wifi for something, its really annoying.
